Need Greek pop songs for this Saturday (wedding)
I'm doing a wedding this Sat and they requested Greek style (music and dance).
I have a cd I can use for the actual belly dancing, including a tsiftetelli solo, so I got that covered, but I need a few easy going songs (pop songs) that i can use to get the bride and /or the guests up to dance, etc.
They're techniqually Greek as far as their heritage, but both the bride and groom are Americans, and they don't speak Greek, and I don't think any of the guests will be actually Greek. The bride / groom might speak Greek, but overall I would say this is more to embrace their origin.
So I don't need Greek line dances, because they most of the guests wouldn't know what to do with it, so I thought some pop songs, suitable for weddings (according to lyrics would help).
Does anyone have any suggestions? All I need is 2, maybe 3, and I need to download them from Amazon or some other source, because I don't have enough time.
Thank you!Last edited by Marianna; 03-16-2010 at 01:21 PM.

Re: Need Greek pop songs for this Saturday (wedding)
I did a birthday party with a lot of young Greek American guests and they loved the dance-y, modern "Gia" by Despina Vandi (which, curiously, is on the Turkish band Harem's Vol. IV album). It might be a little too techno to fit into your overall set, but it's upbeat and has a good steady beat for getting people up to dance.
Oh, and P.S. - you can get it on iTunes!

Try "Foveri" by Giorgos Mazonakis.
There's a Greek version of "Harramt Ahebbak" that is sung by Keti Garbi called, "Aspro i mavro" The album is Ti Theloun Ta Matia Sou.
When I was looking for music this past summer, I found a bunch of threads here on Bhuz, which is where I found the above suggestions. I'm sure there are more to be found, especially since pop music favorites keep changing.

Re: Need Greek pop songs for this Saturday (wedding)
Well, pop songs in Greece are pretty shallow these days, as lyrics go. So, in terms of words, I don't think there's any modern pop tsiftetellia which are very romantic for CLASSY Greek wedding. But if you are just looking for modern get-up-and-dance music, the usual Greek party tunes are upbeat and fun, so I wouldn't worry TOO much about what they say. There are so many which are shared in arabic too. (like listed above)
If you want to impress with real Greek "class", i would go for older Greek tunes in the main part of the show. Ta Maura Matia sou (Bellydance superstars has an instrumental version)...or some old tsiftetelli (Sala sala etc.) If theres a lot of old greek relatives there they'd appreciate it.
As far as getting people up to dance:
Some instrumental tsiftetellis would work too, with bouzouki sound.
Mike Stoupakis has a great cd out. He's contactable through MusicalFantasia. I don't see his cd on amazon anymore, but he's a cool guy, so you could ask him if he can send you a rush mp3 by email maybe...and maybe you can purchase his cd on his website.
Here are some i found on amazon...the tunes that float in my mind all day everyday here... (I work too much!)
This is a modern tsiftetelli played at clubs and parties here. Lyrics, well... It means a lot of nothing, so can be appropriate for any event. Its slower, so its more in tune with the way greek tsiftetelli style is...if they actually dance like greeks! :)
Amazon.com: pote boudas: MP3 Downloads
This says in short: "I havent seen something more beautiful" Kind of a fun man-saying-he-likes-a-beautiful-girl song.

If they are a young couple, you can pop it up with this "I want you, like crazy"...a pop song (kinda recent).
[ame=http://www.amazon.com/Se-Thelo-Me-Trela/dp/B002P2PQ5A/ref=sr_1_17?ie=UTF8&qid=1268790014&sr=1-17]Amazon.com: Se Thelo Me Trela: Kelly Kelekidou: MP3 Downloads[/ame]
This is a bit sexier...if the couple is young. If you really know that there won't be OLD greek people there (I would guess there would be) This song is a little steamy...
"erota mou" is "my love" in a more passionate kinda way. the song talks about love at first sight...across a BAR I imagine :)

I hope this helps. These are for party/night atmosphere. I hope it jives with the event.
This is how we do it over here :)
all the best :)

Efharisto Athenanajat !! :)
These are exactly the kind of sounds I was looking for and some info on the background / lyrics. Perfect!
The 2nd song Se Thelo Me Trela sounds exactly like Nancy Ajram's Ya tabtab song, I'm sure it's the Greek version of it.
Thank you everyone!
Yes, the couple is young, the bride is very cool. About half of the guests will be Greek and the other half everything else, according to her. I think the music I planned and these songs will go real well.
Kisses!

Re: Need Greek pop songs for this Saturday (wedding)
There's a Greek pop singer who does a Greek version of Sidi Mansour. I used it for a Greek wedding and they loved it. It was good for me because it's very belly-danceable with a familiar tune and very pop-y and fun for audience participation.

Re: Need Greek pop songs for this Saturday (wedding)
total unrelative with the thread but relative with the dancer above and also with the plastic operations that many artists dancers/singers does in Med aera, and Greece is no exception on this.
Unfortunately the singer above 1 month ago had face lift and some other things done and now her face is total destroyed and not recognizable
Sad lesson to be learned, she was already soooo beautiful girl ! not over 32-3
