So if you were going to build a set for a 20 to 30 minute performance for a group of belly dancers and star including taksims and drum solos what would you construct using these songs.

It depends somewhat on how long your versions are. Do you have approximate timings?

Curious, I love Nebtidit M'neim El Hikaka but why parts 1 & 3? Parts 1 & 2 are the most popular.

It would help if I knew what versions of the songs you were planning to use. Not all versions of all songs go together.

No one has ever requested two although we have the entire piece its like 14 pages front and back.

I have never heard any dancer ever perform to part two.

Ah, I see, you are referring to how the video is divided up. I was referring to the instrumental sections only. So we are talking about the same 2 sections of music.

By versions, I meant CD's. Unless you are playing live music?

If you were doing Neptidi, I"d do an opening song, like Zeina, then the 2 parts together then add a small taxim, then drum solo.

Yes this is all live music.

Shouldn't you be asking this question of the dancers who are in the show?

I am just asking a generic question.

Audience are dancers who are say ....dining on an evening meal.
Live band has list of those songs to choose from
need a set for about 20-30 minutes.

Are you just playing or do you have a dancer as well?

I LOVE to put together setlists.

Song One:
Aziza, Nebtiti, Leylet Hob

Song Two (slowing it down a bit):
Lamma Bada Yatathanna
Zeina
Inta Omri (but not after Leilet Hob or Nebtiti - maybe if I started with Aziza)

Song Three :
Shashkin (with cane)
Bint El Shalabeya - don't really remember this but assume it's more of a baladi tune.

Taqsim (to slow it down again)
Drum Solo (to speed it up again)

Song Four (Audience Participation)
Ya Salaam or Ah Ya Zein

Song Five - repeat a snippet of the first song as a finale.

Oh, I thought you were asking about dance sets for dancers who were performing with your band.

I think you should play whatever you like, if people are eating, keep it low-key, then put some upbeat stuff near the end if people might get up to boogie a little.

Oh, if you are playing a set for an AUDIENCE of dancers during dinner, then I say, play the classics first, Start with Oum Khoulsom, like Alf Leyla Inta Omri, Leylat Hob, then move on to more "get up and dance" songs from Abdel Halim Hafiz like Neptidi.

Agreed. That works best with bands you don't have a working relationship with. Nothing is worse than forcing a band to play a song they aren't comfortable with or prepared to play but they valiantly attempt to please you anyway. Better to have the band engaged in and loving what they are playing because the dancer derives her energy from the band and that's what makes magic.
