Thread: Drum solo intro?

Hi all,
I'm finishing up a drum solo choreography for a student showcase and I'm looking for a short, musical intro to get me on stage, do a little veil thang, then into the drum solo. I love classical Egyptian stuff, but they key here is *short* - the drum solo is almost 5 minutes long and I don't know if I have the stamina for it with a long intro!!!

how short are we talking? If you have the Asena CD, the tracks titled Sendur and Asena have good energy, have a full entrance feeling and are under 4 minutes. Otherwise I would just pick an Oriental you like and cutting it.

maybe the intro to Mashaal? or the intro to 'Dina'? both under a minute, I believe.

The Beginnng of Hossam Ramzy's Faddah has an easy chop-off point to make is just a few minutes

Here's one I used for intro. It's Halas .36 sec. off of Masters of Egyptian Bellydance by Mohammad Al Hasan Abo Abid.. Very short and great for Veil entrance. Can do a couple of sweeps and discard.

Can't seem to find my exit song. that was .24 seconds.....

There are so many oriental songs that would work for exactly what you want... just cut after the malfouf entrance... here are some with a definite cut point:

Wash ya Wash vol 5 'Oriental Bedhour' Cut at 1:09
Oriental Fantasy Vol 10 'Gala Oriental' Cut at 1:07 or 2:09
Oriental Fantasy Vol 2 'Scheherazade and the Golden Slave' Cut at :29
Oriental Fantasy Vol 12 'Talisman' Cut at 1:00

Typing in 'intro' into my itunes gave me this, and it would be very suitable for pre drum solo:

Track 10 on Heya Di Yasmina has a 47 sec intro exit piece, i use it all the time.

once when I had to get onstage in a hurry to go into a long drum solo, I just used a kanoun taqsim. I spun out onstage with a veil, did some swoops and twirls, and voila. discard veil and begin drum solo.
