    Nagwa Music -Princess of Cairo

My friend Katya Faris and were discussing this song and we are only aware of 2 versions. The original and Adam Basma's version. Are there more out there?

    Here is the original version:

I couldn't find a clip with the Adam Basma version based on a name search but I'm sure there must be one out there???!!!!

One of my favorite songs to dance to..it has it all. Very tight, nice and short for the GP, yet plenty of soul. The origianl is all I have.

You rocked the Chaldean version! I love how you used the time signature change to 3/4 to spin. very pretty with the rounded cape. Somewhere on VHS I have the Lebanese club version :) Here's a clip of it with Jindra, my old dance partner, and I doing a choreographed duet at the Hollywood Park Casino Night Club (long gone). Comes after the Luxor commercial clip.

Look at the spin with Isis Wings. Even more dramatic.

I tried uploading the audio clip of Adam Basma's version but it says link appears to be broken when I click on the song.

Re: Nagwa Music -Princess of Cairo

Many of the songs on Hamouda Ali's cd Princess of Cairo have been labeled wrong.

The song called Nagwa music is actually part 2 of Banat Eskandariya (with part 1 being Entrance of the Princess, part 3 Waves of the sea, part 4 Solo nay, part5 Khaliji).

Besides the Adam Basma version there's also a modern one on the Bellyqueen cd.

now off to go and watch the youtube clips

I think that you can find some versions of this song:

1 - Amin Eid - Desert Quenn / Bellydance Mystique - Desert Queen (it seams to be "nagwa", but I'm not sure)
3 - Osvaldo Brandan (Viento del Desierto) - Nashua
4 - Tony Mouzayek (Bellydance Orient vol 18) - Cairo
5 - Soraia Zaied (it is at an workshop CD)

Thanks. That was the debut performance of that costume. I had it designed in honor of all of those who died in the 9/11 bombing of the World Trade Center. I ended up re-designing the costume shortly thereafter. I got rid of the poofy circle in the middle of the belt but kept the star applique. And I turned the strip skirt from a complete circle into a 3/4 circle. Simple changes that suited my body type. My costume designer and friend Shadiah is Junoesqe and I had to constantly fight some of her costume ideas that suited her tall, majestic frame but swamped me at 5'3".

I just sold that a year ago to a local dancer. Not a great pic but you get the idea:

Can you post links of clips of the above songs that I can't find? I don't have time to research all. But if any of these songs are Nagwa, other than #3 I have to say I'm upset that that the artist just don't say so! Are they avoiding copyright issues or are they so ignorant they don't know the song is a classic?

For instance, Tony Mouzayek's Cairo? It sounds like Adam Basma's version or vice versa?

About Tony Mouzayek's Cairo, I don´t know if it sounds like Adam Basma's. Unfortunatly, I couln't find an Adam Basma's version of this song...

In fact, there are many singers that make an diffrent version of famous songs and rename it... it is sad... With Tony Mouzayek song's, it sometimes happens. But he is not the only!
The first clip, Soraia Zaied's sounds like an original version meaning unique and different.

The second clip, Tony Mouzayek sound's like the Adam Basma version. I don't know who came first, but they sound exactly the same.

Desert queen sounds like the original version from the Princess of Cairo.

Just would like to point out again for those who do not know already, that Nagwa is not the name of the 'song' to begin with. It's a part of the instrumental 'song' Banat Eskandariya, which was written for and made fabmous by Nagwa Fouad.

I"'m not sure if we are talking about the same song? Both Nagwa and Banat Eskandariya are both on the Princess of Cairo CD. Nagwa being on the side A (old cassette) and Banat Eskandariya on side B. Two separate songs. On the CD version that I have the song is tracks:

1.Nagwa Show: Entrance of the Princess
    2. Nagwa Music

This is the song that I personally have been talking about. It has always been referred to as Nagwa as far as I know and that's going back to the 1980's.

Now as far as Banat Eskandariya it is a separate song from "Nagwa".

Thanks for clearing that up, Norma! I thought the same, that they were the two main melodies on the original album.

The stars and stripes costumes is wonderful!!!

I am dancing to the Adam Basma version next week with an orange and red Lebanese costume with lots of fringe and bling! I love taking older music and putting a modern and fresh costume on it :)))

Hmm yes this is a bit confusing.

There are (parts of) 3 main songs on this particular cd: Banat Eskandariya (#1-5), Set el hosn (#8-9) and Raqsat Nagwa Fouad (#10-14, 17).

So there are indeed a 'Nagwa' song and the song Banat Eskandariya on this cd, and no they aren't the same number: the song named Nagwa music is (part of) Banat Eskandariya and the song named Sea of Alexandria is actually (part of) Raqsat Nagwa Fouad.

Ah. So we are talking about 2 different things. My version is different. Almost opposite in fact. This is based off a copy of a CD I was given but matches the original cassette that I had.

    1. Nagwa Show: Entrance of the princess (the opening for the song Nagwa)
    2. Nagwa Music ( the main song that I am calling Nagwa)
    3. Nagwa:Waves of the Sea
    4. Nagwa: Solo Ney
    5. Nagwa: Khaligi
    6. Nagwa: Taqsim Violin
    7. Nagwa: Taqsim kanoun
    8. Nagwa: Set el Hosen ( which is really only a portion of the entire song Set El Hosen)
    9. Nagwa: Finale

    10. Banat Eskanderia: Kanoon intro
    11. Banat Eskanderia: Sea of Alexandria (the main song)
    12. B. E. Taskim Ney
    13. B. E. Music of Soheir Zaki
    14. B. E. See Breeze
    15. B.E. Taskim Accordian ( I just LOVE THIS)
    16. B.E. Tabla Solo
    17. B.E Finale

There are 3 distinct songs: Nagwa, Banat Eskanderia, and just a sample of Set El Hosen.

Re: Nagwa Music -Princess of Cairo

It just so happens that my boss in Vegas at Marrakech is Hamouda Ali, he is a good friend, and coworker with Sami Nossair, who actually arranged my shows when I was in Egypt 9 years ago, and Hamouda played in Nagwa's band back in the 70's and 80's.

So, about 12 years ago, I convinced Hamouda to take his Princess of Cairo CD to Mher at Hollywood Music Centers and do a second release, because he had so much success earlier, I do know that after a few years, Mher changed out the cover picture, I wasn't aware of them changing the songs or titles around, but when I get back to Vegas on Monday, I'll ask Hamouda and see what he says. I do know that his arrangement is original, and there was a possible lawsuit when Adam Basma copied his CD, added a drum machine over it and released it. This was about 10 years ago, when this type of music issue really started to hit.

Could you ask him if these separate songs were originally part of a larger suite of music? It seems like there is a lot of confusion because very similar sounding pieces of music show up in multiple places, and I am wondering if that is because they were composed as a set of variations on a theme for Nagwa.

He loves Aradia because she is a great emissary of the middle eastern dances!

Just to keep the record straight, the first video Samira posted is the song Sit El Hosen. The second video, with me dancing, is the song Nagwa. Both songs were made famous by the dancer Nagwa Fouad.
