Thread: Help with approx 3 minute song!!!

I fell in love with Ice Queen for my student's recital in June...however, it is too long, and I can't find a good spot to cut it to the desired 3 mintues (give/take about 20 seconds). Anybody have any suggestions for something similar??

Have you tried cutting in the middle of the song? I.e., keep the intro, keep the end, but cut out a few of the repetitions in the middle (as I recall, that tune has a certain repetitiveness which helps a lot). That's a lot more work, but the result is much better, and even more importantly, you will understand the music better. Good luck!

The composer is Paul Dinleter, most of his music is like that, maybe listen to some of his other stuff to find something similar?

Alternatively, you could do a search on line for the belly dance superstars cd, I think this is on the first and has a shorter version

This is just an aside and totallu unhelpful, but I just wanted to say - 3 minutes?! Yeesh, limits are getting shorter and shorter! That's nearly unworkable!

This is what I just did for my fall student solo. I cut a big part of the intro too, as it is very pretty, but not music I was dancing to. I cut part of the middle repetition too and then had my picky husband smooth everything out. Listening to the music and choosing where to cut and helping him smooth it out really helped me understand the music and it's phrases, which helped when I was choregraphing my piece. You can find places to cut, it just takes a great deal of listening carefully and deciding what you have to have now and what you can let go of.
