Thread: Tab Wana Maly/Mally Wana Mally

I'm getting a bit confused about this song. Searching on youtube gives me videos that range from Nourhanne, to Warda yet the songs aren't anything alike.

Are these related? (part of the same longer song, or totally different)

How cute! And it's fun to see a remake... though I like the original better (something about the tone from the dancer -- she's conscious of herself, but seems more positive and not take herself too seriously, whereas Nourhanne is all I-am-sexy, hear-me-roar). Thanks for posting!

Here's what I found:

The music and lyrics of Nourhanne's song are credited to "Egyptian Folklore" (literally "Fulklur Masri"). I don't know if that's supposed to mean it's just an old song or something else. I'm finding conflicting information about where it comes from. Most places associate the song with Nadia Lotfi and the 1964 movie "Been al qasrein," but when I cross-reference that film, Nadia is not listed as being in it in the elcinema database, and I don't see her name on the movie poster (http://egyptianfilmposters.com/fotos/1266600774.JPG). At any rate, it's not a terribly new song, but I can't find songwriter information on it. The lyrics are here http://www.allthelyrics.com/forum/ar...wana-mali.html.

Warda's song came out in 1973 and it is associated with the movie, "Voice of Love" ("Sawt al Hob").
Its music is credited to Baligh Hamdi with lyrics by Mohammed Hamza. The title seems to be listed as "Maly wana maly" (on Hamdi's Wikipedia page) and "Tab wana maly" (on Warda's fan site) and "Wana maly" (on the Arabic lyrics site).
