    Favorite versions of Hebbina (Habina)?

Looking for your favorite versions of this song. REcently discovered one by Viken Najarian off his Legacy cd.

    What are yours?

I'm not sure I would dance to it, but I LOVE Rachid Taha's version.

Was that the one that was used at the end of the movie "It's kind of a funny story" ? I loved that one!

Normally, I'm not a huge fan of Rachid Taha (Do. Not. Want. his version of "Rock the Casbah"), but for some reason his growling works for me on this particular song.

    Farid's version:

Omar Khorshid took a stab at it:

Wouldn't normally expect a Lebanese kid to pick this one, but Jad Shwery did last month:

My favourite version of "Hebbina Hebbina" ever since I heard it 10 years ago is track #1 on the CD "Belly Dance Le meilleur de la danse du ventre", 1999 Atoll Music/Paris France. Love the general sound of all the tracks on this CD, actually, beautiful orchestration.

    Joyful dancing,

This is one of those songs where I prefer the original version. Haven't found an instrumental version that I like.

Have you heard the version on the Voices of the Stars CD "Bellydance with Farid al Atrache" ? It's a medley of several songs, and almost too fast, but I still kinda dig it.

Yes, me too! It's a strange recording, isn't it? There's something a little rough about all the tracks, but they're very 'real' and the sound is really interesting & unique.

Absolutely, Lauren! There's a 60's essence to some of the tracks, I don't know how to describe it better. It could be the quality of an early generation synthesizer or a Flanger guitar pedal which can produce an organ-like sound effect. Whatever it is, I find it all a bit funky, fresh and appealing :)

aziyade, did you ever find out what that exact version is, and how one could get a hold of it? i've spent many hours trying to find this version, as it hit me straight in the heart like no other of the dozens of other versions i found can.

if you could let me know who the artist is that sung this version, i'd greatly appreciate it!

here is a YouTube link to the clip with this beautiful rendition:*

PS: i signed up for this forum just to ask you this question, as you were the only reference to this rendition i could find after many hours of Googling about it!*
