    Princess Banu, name that album

I've posted the first two clips. She dances to the entire routine in a series of costume changes. I'll get the rest up eventually.

I know I used to have this music on cassette. The only album I can think of is Egyptian Ecstasy by Jaleddin. Who knows it?

I recognize the first music on Vid #1 as appearing on Nadia's "Cleopatra" album under the song title "Mirfet." (and I do think it is the same recording). I don't have all of that album in my library, only parts of it. Don't recognize the rest. Love the floor work music, yum. Will watch this thread!

The first one is definitely Rakset Mirfat. I know/have the second one but its trapped in the dead laptop :( Gotta get that drive out...

I think it can be found on one of the Voice of Stars compilations

I have Raksat Mirfat on Belly Dance With Hassan Abou Seoud Vol. 2.

But I'm pretty sure it used to be on something else. It was a whole routine on an album. Maybe when I get the rest up it will ring a bell.

One last clip. I don't believe this music to be part of the above routine. This is separate, but I would like to know the name of the song. It sounds familar, but an odd choice to do cane to I thought.

It's certainly an interesting choice of songs. I wonder if she'd been aiming to present a particular regional flavor put in historical context (inception and zenith). While the first song is the classic mowwashah "Anta Al-Momanna3 Ya Qamar" from the Al-Dommah genre (circa 1870), the second song, "Allah 3ala Qolletha" was produced nearly a century later. Both however are essential examples of the Suez (Canal) style, albeit separated by a good ninety years. Considering that both songs are in Rast Maqam using different variations of the same York Sama3y rhythm, this could be a well thought out presentation.

Princess Banu is on Facebook, and she is an active user. Why don't you contact her directly? Maybe she can help you ....

Do you have links to these songs by themselves? When I search on the titles, the English only points back to this post, and انت المانع يا قمر and الله على قلتها are dead ends, too (but that may be the fault of my bad guesses at Arabic spellings).

Anta Al-Momanna3 Ya Qamar is written انت الممنع يا قمر and should be available online since it's one of the better known examples of Al-Dommah period. الله على قلتها on the other hand is mostly of academic interest as it is taught at music schools. While online research material may not be available, I'll try and find some audio file for you.

That song from the Princess Banu Cane dance was on a tape by Said El Artist I think.

My teacher, long time ago, recorded this very long tape with his songs which unfortunately got chewed up later. However, I threw the tape out so I don't have the list of songs anymore.

I noticed the CD by Said El Artist, not the one with Amani, but the one with him on the cover, had only half of the songs that were on the tape, and I've been hoping one day the rest of the songs will be re-released.

I'm very sure that is one of his songs but unless you're lucky to find someone who still has it on tape, I don't think it's been re-released.

Thought I wasn't going to be able to find this one! This is the right song, isn't it? It's so hard to tell from the quality of the audio, but it appears to match the lyrics posted in one of the Muwashahat forums.

Still not having much luck with this one. The string turned up on a couple of forums for devout Muslims to ask advice for their romantic problems, though.

OT threadjack...Do you know what Mohammed Qandil's "Sahab rimsho" has to do with Sinbad?

Yep. You grabbed an 80 year old recording hence the quality of the video. I hadn't heard Mohammad Selim do it before. I went ahead and posted it on Sama3y.net citing your effort. The reason I posted it there is that the instrumentation on Selim's version includes a semsemia, an essential instrument of the Suez style. So far, every recorded version we have of the thing in its 140 y/o is in the Suez-style.

You lost me. Th lyrics certainly have nothing to do with Sinbad. If you tell me where this came from, I might be able to point myself in the right direction and give you a better answer.

Let me drag my question over to its own thread: Qandil & Sinbad?
