    Drumming dancers out there?

    Hi Bellies,
Any dancers who play doumbeck and dance?
What is your favorite way to stabilize the drum.

    Classic scarf
    fancy band holster
    Neck or waist

I usually just go with the scarf but perhaps there is a better way.

If I'm just sitting, not trying to walk or dance with the drum, I just raise my right foot onto the ball. I drum left-handed, though, so if you're right-handed, raise the left foot a little. There are foot stands you can buy, too, that guitarists use. I've never actually used one of those, though. I usually don't have to drum for a long period of time, so raising the foot works fine for me.

Same as Dunyah - seated - foot slightly on ball - L arm lightly resting along top of tabla - R arm free.

    Hey Shahrava,

I can help since I recently bought the same strap that Shems mentioned. I use it when we are doing roving drumming performances etc. I have found it great so far & feels more secure than a scarf.

It was pretty easy to put onto the drum, by taking off the drum head then the loop of the strap goes behind one of the bolts. If you follow the link Shems sent through, at the bottom of the page near product description there is a youtube clip showing how the strap goes on. Hope that helps a bit

Despite the fact that typing "strap on" brings in some rather questionable selections... I remembered Carmine had a video about how to put a strap on a doumbek. In order to save you the "dangers" - here's the link. Putting a strap on a Doumbek - YouTube

I tend to ditch the doumbek when dancing & go for a small frame drum instead. or I just zill. Sahra was talking about some technique of playing a riq while wearing finger cymbals & I am longing to know more...
