Im sure Ill get busted for this but..eh..what can someone tell me about the song Aziza?

Hey there. What sort of info do you seek. Is it history you're after or something more technical about the composition (if so, let me know how technical. I don't wanna give yo a headach).

The song is from a movie called Aziza. Here's a clip of Naima Akef dancing to the song. It doesn't relate back to the movie but she was in a movie called Aziza.

I guess the music is dubbed in but I think she is really dancing to the song Aziza.

Looking to get as much info as possible. Our assignment for the song is to break it down by counts and then I believe eventually choreograph it. bonus points for any and all history we can find.

here's some info. the song is really famous and well known in turkey too. it is called "Azize". the score is the same, but they lyrics are turkish. it is pretty synonymous with belly dance(rs). Search the forum, i think I may have provided a translation of the turkish version once or twice!

Mary Ellen Donald's books have a rhythmic breakdown of Aziza, looking into that may be useful? And, the sheet music is fairly easy to find.

As Assiyah said, there are also wonderful Turkish recordings. I always get a happy giggle from Zeki Muren singing Azize:

I believe the Turkish lyrics can be summarized as "Oh Azize, don't leave me." :-)

And, there are officially MORE THAN ONE turkish version!!! I had not heard the version that Steffib just posted before, and know a different set of lyrics!

The lyrics that Steffib posted are saying:
sev diyorsun azizem = you say love me my azize
seni nasil seveyim = how can i love you
vefakar oldugunu ben nerden bileyim = without knowing if you are loyal

ah azize, ah azize = ah azize LOL
yalvaririm gel gitme = i beg you, come, don't leave
cok mesudum ben seninle = i am very content with you
beni terk etme = don't leave me

Whereas the OTHER version I know (the lyrics used in this version) goes:

Tesekkurler! I started taking Turkish classes (which are so much fun) to be able to translate lyrics, this is a great practice example. The nice thing about Zeki is that even a beginning student can figure out some of the words.

From what I understand, it is quite common in Turkish music to adapt songs, incl. the lyrics, this is a fine example. I am wondering who holds the rights for the different lyrics.
