Arabic Music: English Translation of Lyrics for El Tannoura by Fares Karam

Here are the original lyrics. That is NOT what I'm hearing!

    Blimey.

It would appear to be something about all the ladies doing something with their pet cats. Then something about asses and cracks - maybe they are restoring a dilapidated donkey sanctuary. After that the sound quality got mercifully poor and I couldn't make it out.

Give me songs about ambiguous fruit any day.

Faris Karam Remixx. Just came out on Amazon. I have not yet had a chance to listen to the rest of the tracks. I hope they aren't all like that!

How could this possibly be authorized?! Fares is on Rotana, and the video for "El Ghorba" just resurfaced in regular rotation on Klip within the last few weeks. His contract must be valid with them if they're still promoting his records, and I can't imagine the Saudi royal family would sign off on their licensed property being converted into obscene club remixes, at least not in any aboveboard capacity. It has to be some DJ going off on his own.

Ah, well, the content explains why "remix" is being spelled with three X's. I suppose we should hope that Fares doesn't speak enough English to understand what they're rapping on top of his records, although one must concede that Mr. Karam's stage persona exudes a strong whiff of "Yes, now that you mention it, I do believe I'm God's gift to women" douchebaggery (even if he might not actually be like that IRL).

If he didn't already pull a fatwa down on his head with "Hamdellah," he'll have one now.

I don't know, but Amazon lists him as both the artist and the publisher, and attributes the copyright to him. The listing on Amazon (and on e-music) doesn't indicate that this is some other artist sampling Karam's stuff... it seems to be HIS album.*

    http://www.amazon.com/Fares-Remixxx/...6066983&sr=8-1

I wondered for a moment whether Karam spoke any English, whether he maybe put some trust in the wrong person. BUT if I put out a CD, the content of it is MY responsibility....

    * e-music lists the publisher as Fares Karam/CDBaby, and CDBaby lists the copyright holder as Fares Karam. So it appears to be a self-published album, via CDBaby?

I noticed that, but it doesn't make sense. Fares Karam is one of the most popular singers in Lebanon and he's under contract to the largest media conglomerate in the Middle East. I'm sure he has a legal obligation that stipulates what he's allowed to do on his own, and I wouldn't expect one of those things is "release a remix album that the people who footed the bill to make the original record don't stand to make any money from." A record label would have to be crazy to let its artists release their own material on the side like that.

At any rate, there's still the issue of what copyrights Fares owns to these songs. Fares usually (if not always?) has his material written by other musicians. As far as I know, he's only entitled to the copyright as the performer, which isn't enough to claim full ownership and cut Yasser Jalal, Nashed Iskander, Selim Salama, Marwan Khoury, and the other guys who wrote the songs on this record out of the loop. Something's fishy here.

I've listened to 17 out of the 27 songs. So far that seems to be the only one with dirty lyrics. The first track was the only other track with rap but the only words I could decipher were "under the hood".

But the quality of the sound seems horrible. At first I thought it was my speakers, but I don't think so.

    yuk!

This is the other song. It has got to be someone other than Fares Karam mixing these two songs. Since there are two full songs put together, the correct thing would be to credit both artists, wouldn't it?

You don't have to check this song out It's just for the curious minds

That is a nasty, nasty piece of music to mix with a song about wearing short skirts.

Apparently so... and now that I watched the clip, the 'song' is playing in my head on an endless loop. I swear I actually found myself sort of humming it while I washed dishes today. This is NOT ok.
