Need translation of this Samir Srour CD -Best of Abdel Halim

This is my first ever Samir Srour CD that I picked up in an Arabic music store a long time ago. I recognize a few songs on the CD but I would be grateful if someone could translate the entire track list for me!

Samir Srour - Best of Abdel Halim Hafez, SAX Arabic CD - CDs

No 9 might be Tekhonoh (since they're all Abdel Halim songs).

Am I losing my google-fu, or was this originally Abdel Ghany al-Sayed's song, not Abdel Halim's? I'm not having much luck finding a version where Abdel Halim actually sings this.

    Srour:

    Abdel Ghany:

    Isn't this a different song?

Have you heard Cairo Blue? I loved what the sax player did. You can listen to snippets here:

I'm confused. Is the song I posted in the "baladi set" thread ("al-Hawa hawaya") the supposed Track 3 you wanted or are we still looking for it? It appears most of his material is online either at YouTube or streaming libraries (although not necessarily organized as one CD), so if we're still looking, it's probably out there to be found.

Okay, so I quickly put together a video with the track listings. Hopefully we can get all the tracks properly ID'd.

Yeah! 9 out of 10 ain't bad! So you don't think track # 3 is part of a song with an actual name?

Okay, that makes more sense. I wasn't sure how the other song would have come up in a discussion about baladi progressions. If this is it, it's just labeled "Baladi." Not sure what album it would be on, since it doesn't match up with the track listings for the photo of the Abdel Halim record.

Because of this thread I went to our local Arabic bookstore today and bought a bunch of Sami Srour CDs. There's actually a series "Oriental Saxophone" by him and THIS beladi progression is on Vol 2 and is called El Hawa Hawaya, the same as track 3 on Norma's CD. I think the beladi you are referring to is called Helwa Hawaya, no?

Yes, that is what it appears to be called on the CD. The problem is we can't seem to match it with an Abdel Halim song by the same name. I have a couple tracks by that name and the music is different, not a beledi taqsim progression but the music in the video that Torbeau posted earlier.

But is El Hawa Hawaya one of those long songs in many parts? Perhaps the beledi is part of the song that we haven't heard?

    I Am a big fan.
Baligh Hamdi had spotted him playing at a Cairo night club and asked him to attend rehearsals. After a few months, Hamdi started music-only rehearsals for Fat El Ma'ad giving Srour a solo. Then, a week before full rehearsals were to start, Hamdi told him that the solo was to be part of the final production. At the first full rehearsal, Srour is at the back of the room as Umm Kulthum walks in. Never having met her before, the man is justifiably terrified. Umm Kulthum looks at the back of the room and inquires:
    "Who are you?"
Srour, nervous, forgets to say his name and just answers that he's the saxophone player.
    "What's a saxophone?"
As Srour starts to stutter an answer she follows with:
"And who told you to be here?"
Srour, now completely flustered, gets up and starts to leave the room. The lady then smiles at the retreating Sax player and goes:
"Welcome to the fold Mr. Srour. I am a big fan" as the rest of the band breaks out into laughter.

Srour's solo starts at 2:56. Does anyone recognize the Accordionist sitting next?
If you make it that far, the third movement, centered around that most famous of lines by Morsi Gamil Aziz, is one of my favorites.

That would make sense, since the piece fades out at the end without a traditional tempo increase - as if it's going into something else. This has to be one of the most famous beladi progressions of Egyptian music. I have been dancing to this piece almost since I started. It doesn't get much better than this, unless it's a piece by the late Hassan Abou Saoud.

Alexandrian - what a GREAT story!! Thank you. So who's the accordion player? I haven't a clue.
