Song of the Day -Bint El Sultan

This song was very popular when I first started dancing in the 80's. I love this version!

    Lyrics, history, favorite versions, videos?

    The original:

Look closely around 4:54. Isn't that Dina?

Well now, that kind of doesn't make sense. I understand the sugar, fruits and pineapple part but then why throw in the mention of all the people from all the different cities?

I seem to remember once hearing that this song had some political meaning?

Maybe the daughter of the sultan is a metaphor for the beautiful Egyptian people? (and then they mention all Arabian countries as well) Love the song.

Is it any weirder here than when Huey Lewis did it in "The Heart of Rock and Roll"? It makes people from the places you sing about like your record.

Any song that starts out singing about how you should have mercy on the poor guy could be, especially since he's name-checking so much of Egypt.

Two versions I really like are
one on CD whatever Lola wants-great nightculbby sound except it doen't have a proper ending just a fade out-pity
And I love the version on Leilas CD Om al Dunya that is part of a medley with the Sahra Hamdi song Shartit Elenou Itganin

I got Leila's version, I really like the medley too. I haven't heard of whatever Lola wants. Nightcluby sounds great as that is the sound I'm looking for. Too bad, I don't like fade outs.
