Looking for pop song with "loving lyrics" for a wedding

One of my students wants me to teach her and her future husband a simple dance for their wedding in October.
She suggested "Ya Rayah" by Rachid Taha - but I don't think it's a good joice for a wedding.
(she doesn't know many ME songs).

So I am looking for a positive love song - no heart break stuff, although poets seem to be more inspired by suffering than by joy

I normally dance to the more classical stuff with no lyrics and I am not very up to date with pop songs, but I know some of you are.

    Any suggestions?

you could use Ma Yhemmak from Yara's Inta Menni Cd, it a little bit older for a pop tune (2006? or so) but it has great lyrics, perfect for a just married couple. I'll post the lyrics in a minute:

Here are the lyrics I have for it:

    Ma Yhemmak (Don't You Worry)

Don't you worry, no matter how long the wait is,
Tomorrow will come, and I will be yours forever.
I swear, it does not matter to me,
Without you, my heart cannot tell the difference between ice and fire.

Let the world know who my heart chose,
    You, you.

Let everyone see how we sing through the night.
Your love made me lost for words,
I don't want to remember anyone else.
    The matter is now public,
So let all who has not heard hear.
I am telling you from here on, my days are yours,
    I want no one else.

I choose you of all people, and my lucky eyes have you,
I swear, it does not matter to me,
Without you, my heart cannot tell the difference between ice and fire.

Is she looking for recent/current music, or is older music okay?

A couple of older songs that come to mind are Amarain and Nour el Ain, both by Amr Diab. Both have fairly simple melodies that would be beginner-friendly.

Completely drawing a blank on the name and artist, but it is a female singer and the song is about getting married with the video of a wedding.
Someone will known what that is. I think it might have been on a BDSS cd a long time ago.

This is my favorite new song! It's pretty much brand new. The subtitles are in English. Enjoy!

If you eliminate the songs that aren't heartbreakers, don't sound too foreign and draggy to an audience of people not used to listening to that style of music, and aren't too long, that cuts down a lot of possibilities. Amro Diab probably has the largest inventory of songs that meet the requirements. Most of the tracks on "Banadeek ta'ala" are declarative love songs, with varying degrees of Westernization. Banadeek Ta3la- Amr Diab Album translation/Transliteration? :) <3

And his older catalog is full of possibilities, too. Here are two more from the album preceding the one above. Amr Diab - Wayah [album] 2009[*]

If the audience is not prone to ranting about Egyptian politics, there are some slow songs by Amro Mostafa, Amro Diab's longtime collaborator. (The joke will be on everyone else if Amro Mostafa comes out of the political turmoil in Egypt as the only musician who isn't persona non grata because of his unwavering support for Mubarak and the SCAF...melodramatic threats of a hunger strike notwithstanding.) Amr Mostafa - Alama Fe Hayati[*]

And if the groom would prefer to let his bride do most of the dancing and just come in for a little dabke now and then, maybe something like this would work. That big, shredding intro will get everybody's attention, if nothing else. Ragheb Alamah - Ana habaytak

Fadl Shaker's Ana Behebak is a gorgeous sweeping love song--the words are on the "how can I stand for us to be apart" side, but most Arabic love songs seem to have a bit of that, no matter how positive. Here's a subtitled video set to, er, scenes from Twilight. Which I guess I can now say I've seen 4 minutes and 23 seconds of

edited to add: my work browser has a lot of stuff disabled--if the link didn't show up, search youtube for fadel shaker ana bahebak english subtitles

linkie works just fine- I made it all of 45 seconds of that before I had to go search out another variation of the song. Kristen Stewart and whatever his name is make me so angry I had to turn it off. Worst actor's ever.

But I love Fadl Shaker- he makes me happy.

Thanks for all the suggestions! I will go through them with the bride.

And yes, from now on I will chop tomatoes wearing a completely white dress because it makes total sense, right?

Can anyone translate the lyrics to this Fares Karam song El Ers? On my CD it is simply translated as The Wedding. I found the arabic lyrics on line.

    Here are the lyrics:
far7a 3amraneh bel dar welli weslo

    el laileh kemlet far7etna far7etna be 3arosetna

How many dresses do you think they had to go through just to make this video? They must have had racks of back ups! I also sincerely hope they had a huge tomato food fight afterwards, or at least made a vat of pasta sauce.

Try bumping the ATL thread Fares Karam - El Ers (العرس)? My Lebanese Arabic isn't good enough to do a decent translation, but the comments on this version of the song seem to encourage the idea that it's a positive wedding song.

Google language tools can convert transliterated Arabic to Arabic script one word at a time, so if you're really desperate, you could limp to a translation that way. Sorry, that's all I've got.

    Here are the lyrics:

    FOUND IT!
    Fares Karam - Al3ers

    El-3ers
    The wedding

far7a 3amraneh bel dar welli weslo yhano ktaar resho el ward zraar zraar
Happiness is in the house & many people are coming to for greeting so throw the flower some by some (on the floor)
el laileh kemlet far7etna far7etna be 3arosetna we 3areesa kaman
Today our happiness has completed, our happiness by seeing our bride & her groom too
sho badna n2oul we netmana nshallah el e2loob btethana we t3eesho be aman
What shall we say & hope to them, hoping the hearts will fits each other & the live in safe

    ya dar mnawar we mzayan
What a house with lights & well decorated
ya 3ers mtantan we mranran 7ayo el 3ersan
What a wedding with lots of sounds & noise...., greet the bride & groom

bent el dalal 3aroosetna re2a we jamal 3aroosetna
    Our bride is very beautiful.
    3al drooba el ward reshola
On her way throw the flower
we meyet mabrook oloola 7ayo el 3ersan
And a hundred congrats tell her & greet the bride & groom

    ya dar mnawar we mzayan
What a house with lights & well decorated
ya 3ers mtantan we mranran 7ayo el 3ersan
What a wedding with lots of sounds & noise...., greet the bride & groom

hal shab el min albo 7abba
This guy from his heart has loved her
    darbo marsoumeh 3ala darba
His way is drowen at hers
    salamha albo we da2ato na2aha shreekt 7ayato 7ayo el 3ersan
He gave her his heart & picked her as his life partner...., greet the bride & groom

    ya dar mnawar we mzayan
What a house with lights & well decorated
ya 3ers mtantan we mranran 7ayo el 3ersan
What a wedding with lots of sounds & noise...., greet the bride & groom

far7a 3amraneh bel dar welli weslo yhano ktaar resho el ward zraar zraar
Happiness is in the house & many people are coming to for greeting so throw the flower some by some (on the floor)

What a house with lights & well decorated
ya 3ers mtantan we mranran 7ayo el 3ersan
What a wedding with lots of sounds & noise...., greet the bride & groom

At the end he says like " Our groom is the best of guys & our bride is the best of the girls heeeeei"

I think it is really for a zeffee entrance not a bride and groom dance however.
