ISO Lyrics for Sou-bena Yasta ala Corniche - Alexandrian Folklore

I'm looking for the lyrics to this song:
"Sou-bena Yasta ala Corniche - Alexandrian Folklore" It's on the Farha Tour dvd. On there it's sung by Hebba. Anyone know where I can get these lyrics?

I've also seen it spelled Soq-bena

I was wondering what the lyrics were, as I didn't get the whole song. All I know is someone's trying to catch a ride from the yasTa (cabbie?) to the Corniche, and now I can't sleep at night not knowing the rest.

Why don't we all stick our thumbs out when we dance to this song? It will be soooo authentic...c::

If I get more complete lyrics, I'll let you know. Maybe it will be instructional for those of us going to Egypt.

I have a version sung by Ruoh Fuad, "Soaa Bena (Drive with us)". I asked an Egyptian friend if he knew what the song was saying. Actually I asked if he even knew the song, lol, because it was given to me with a lot of music downloaded from the internet the last time I was in Egypt and the title was in arabic. He told me this: "The Lady talks to the driver of a cart asking him to drive her with her lover on the sea shore very slow and keep speaking about her lover to the driver." I can never get translations . . and he said it was very hard to translate, lol.

I like the version that I have a lot more than the one on the Farha DVD but it does have a glitch in it from when it was uploaded. Ive danced to it twice now and everyone really likes the music . . . I play zills and at one point make them sound like clopping of the horse's hooves (you can hear it behind the music at one point).

I hope that helps a bit.

How sweet. The Corniche is a great place to drive, too, what with the TGI Fridays and all...

    Thanks!

Hi I found this translation on the CD notes of a CD called Dinga Dinga by the baladi singer Ruh el Fuad. they have this song on there its called Dinga Dinga-same song.

let's get going driver in your cart
Slowly by the river, let's eat corn and drink mango
Come on sweet driver by the river
But please step by step along the horses footsteps.

Step by step oh sweet driver

I saw you at the peak wearing your
special clothes with all the sweet girls around you

Step by step oh sweet driver

Oh,those who blame me over your love,
and those who envy me blame over your love.
    Oh,sweet driver go slowly,go with
    the horses footsteps,one by one
When I call you, call me back and I'll obey
and I'll come to wherever your love takes me

Step by step oh sweet driver
Step by step oh sweet driver

Oh sweet driver.look after us like you
    look after all sweet lovers

Bit confusing as the main person/singer is talking two people-the driver and the lover.

Anyway hope this helps.Would have been a bit quicker except I've only just realised this was the song you meant. I've always called it Dinga Dinga. Its a great song.

Yes, Thanks! I like to have all the lyrics too since I really like this music. I got confused too between "Dinga Dinga" and the "Soaa Bena" when I asked my Egyptian friend about the song . . . I was calling it Dinga Dinga too because I kept hearing that (and "Wahda, Wahda" too). I got the CD after I figured all this out, but I think the version on the CD is too slow compared to the one I got from someone in Egypt.
