Thread: Tahtil Shibbak

I am looking Tahtil Shibbak sung by Fadl Shaker. Have 4 different Fatme Serhan recordings and I am looking for a male voice as well. Any suggestions?

I'll be watching this thread like a hawk because I've looked for this version too! A bhuz poster from long ago (Farhana Masri, I think) once posted a link to it, but it doesn't work any longer. I've had no luck finding the song on any track listings I've been able to see online.

I have Fadl Shaker's version. I think I actually have two of them. They're from live concerts and they sound different from each other. I don't know if you'll find it searching for "Tahtil Shibbak" though because it's just a tiny part of a very long song, and he sings Tahtil Shibbak right in the middle of it. It was given to me on a compilation CD with no title. I don't know if it's on any CD's of his, I've never seen it.
If you don't have any luck finding it...pm me and I can send you the one I have, since I don't know how to go about putting a clip of it up online.

BTW- he's also got the best version of Enta Omri I've ever heard.
Also, Ali Kurdi has Tahtil Shibbak on his Rakset Badia CD. I don't like it as much as other versions, but it's a nice male version for a change.

Hmmmm. Good point. Although...the Village People had no problem with it if I remember my disco days correctly. hehe

I am not sure that it an issue at all. As DaVid pointed on some of the old Tahtil Shibbak posts here on Bhuz, it is a folksong that everyone knows. And some of the video clips I've seen with live performances were of male singers and Arabic audiences. Recently I got a dvd of live music performances by Yasmina Ramzy that included an Arabic wedding with Tahtil Shibbak and male singer.

I am preparing for a performance coming up in March with live musicians and male vocalist so I want to practice a bit with the male voice.

The gender issue *usually* does not come up in traditional song lyrics, since they are often written with masculine verb forms etc.

For me, the version of Ali Kurdi on Raksit Badia is very good. I danced on it a lot in the past and people come to me after the show asking where I took this version.
Also, there is another great sung version by a male (written from Rindala) on the CD Bellydance Harem Part 3 with Sandra on the cover. The version is a little bit slower than Ali Kurdi's and is very sensual.

I forgot to mention that on the latest CD of Leila, Sukara, there is a short medley (5:07) regrouping the song Min Hob Fik Ya Ghari and Tahtill Shibbak sang by a man.
Tahtill Shibbak is sang for about 1:50. It's a good version.

This is my favorite version right now, but then again, I love Min Hobi Fik ya Ghari, so this is a double treat.

Is this the set Bellydance Harem set that Maqam offers? Is it good music??

Unfortunately both Belly Dance Harem Part III and Raksit Badia are no longer available from anyone. Neither Maqam nor Peko have them and I've done internet searches using every search engine I know of. Any ideas of where to find either of these?

Yes, it is. But Souzan's right, number 3 doesn't seem to be available any more. :(

YES! it's wonderful, I've bought the 3 sets they had and am happywith all, not a clunker in the mix.
