Thread: inappropriate emails from Teena Byrd

I and about a hundred other people just got a personal email from bhuz member Teena Byrd that IMHO is highly inappropriate and spam-like

Since my email is preceded by my bhuz handle, ditto for several other bhuzzers I recongnized, I'm assuming she harvested many of these emails from bhuz.

Bold emphasis mine. Just to highlight what a piece of work this person is.

Since it was inappropriate of her to send it to me in the first place I don't feel bad posting here publicly:

Hello, everyone! I need a ride to Baltimore from Edgewater for either Saturday the 23rd to leave here at 1:30 or 2pm and be dropped off by 3pm, or Sunday the 24th to leave here at 8:30am or 9am to be dropped off at 10am, or any day next week to leave here at 9am or 9:30am to be dropped off at 10:30am. This is extremely important to me, and will be a 4-hour photo shoot. I can give a couple of dollars for gas, or exchange house or yardwork.

It would be lovely just to get a ride up, but a ride back would be supreme...

Also, if you have a cellphone, I need to call upon arrival for entrance. Please get back to me ASAP and let me know if you can at xxx-xxx-xxxx.

edited to add: I have never interacted with this person in any way on any forum except via posting on one thread on bhuz; I've never met her, and I live a thousand miles away.

I got that as well and was pretty confused because I am no where near local for her as far as I know. I am definitely not near Baltimore.

I wonder if she needs lunch as well?

I wonder if she accidentally sent it out to the wrong e-mail list?

Why would you have that list? I don't have a random list of Bhuzzers floating around my email service. It seems very naive and yet still very rude.

Rides to modeling shoots might be ok, a burley show, sure. But spamming your whole list (including local forums, individuals who you have interacted with as well as emails farmed from Bhuz) looking for a ride to a low-end strip club? Not appropriate.

Wasn't she the teenager who posted here saying she wanted to be a professional dancer, but didn't need to take lessons or something similar? If it's who I'm thinking of she crossed words with a couple of people here. How would she have gotten e-mail addies unless she pulled from websites posted by members here-in their signatures maybe? I'm wondering because I live in VA (so I'm a lot closer than some of you to B'more) but I didn't get an e-mail from this girl-could it be that my website is not posted here, so no way to get my e-mail?
This might be an attempt to get people here talking about her since she hasn't been on for a couple of months now. Maybe she is trying to get some attention? She seemed kinda troubled to me when she was here last time. I bet she's watching this board hoping for some drama.

She did indeed post on here about going pro, but is in her mid30s (definitely not a teen who might not know better).

An adult? Oh geez. She made me think she was a kid by her responses to posts.
I still get the feeling that this's an attention getting stunt. It makes no sense otherwise. Unfortunately there are grown women in this world who do this sort of thing-I think we all know that.
Was this a mass e-mailing that went out to everyone at the same time? There would be a list of addies for multiple recipients. If this list is only bhuz members, then it's a good possibility she's trying for attention.
I find it really hard to believe that 100 people from this board got the same e-mail by accident. And the question of how she got all those addies still remains.
Even if she was just trying to find a ride, the portion of what she wrote that is posted here is still incredibly rude and presumptuous.

Did any of the recipients report this to Rosey? I seem to recall that is against Bhuz protocol.

I'm assuming that by posting here (in the questions and problems forum) I am reporting the problem to Rosey.

Yes, a mass email, but only to select addresses; those she had come in contact with, written to or dug up on the internet - like the 4-5 restaurants and show venues that were also on the list. It was not just Bhuzzers. She had both of my addresses.

I may be mistaken but I thought the way to report an infraction to Rosey was via the small triangle outlined in red by each member's post info. It's my understanding Rosey reads random postings but not any specific category. I would have reported it but I did not receive the mass email.

The questions and problems forum is a fairly direct line to Rosey. I'm not sure what she can do about this situation, though. If we list our websites/e-mail addresses publicly, people can harvest them and send us e-mails. I know she's really strict about people using the Bhuz PM system inappropriately, but this is different.

Well, one action Rosey could take would be to cancel her bhuz membership.

She's abusing her membership here and several other forums as well IMO. Only by being a member can she harvest the emails so easily and all in one place.

This is just so irritating. She is still sending out emails asking for more rides to more places to her humongous list of recipients. I thought I had solved the problem by filtering messages from her into the trash, but oddly, all the other angry recipients are cc-ing everyone when the email her to tell her not to email them anymore, thus worsening the problem....

omg. I got caught up in a loop like that once, my inbox was a nightmare for weeks!

And then people who didn't understand the 'reply all' function had to reply to the whole group to say 'why are you sending me this? I didn't send you the emial" it was awful.

You're right, she can close her membership.

I am not sure what I can do about this. ,f:: It is probably not a bhuz related issue.
I would guess that she got the email addresses from emails that people send out to large groups. I have noticed, to my annoyance, that occassionally a promoter of an event will send out a message to a large group and not do it as a bcc. It results in everyone in the group getting access to a huge list of new email addresses to annoy. ,m::

Her username is TeenaByrd.

Rosey, just so you know I have never emailed her, and I do not belong to any kind of forum that can be distributed by email (e.g. yahoo groups), much less one that she also belongs to. The only way she could get my sedoniaraqs@gmail address is by copying it from my bhuz signature.

edited to add: and I don't think I'm on any dancers' mailing lists with this email. I just changed to gmail less than a year ago. And my dance company website uses a different email address.

I think that anyone could harvest your signature from any of the unlocked forums without having a bhuz membership. Seriously, this is why I try to avoid posting my email on Bhuz (I'm sure I've done it at some point, but I try to stick to P.M.s because hello, the internet has wackos!).

I don't think it is wise to put your email address in your post signature. I would suggest that you change that. Your email address is hidden from all viewers unless you yourself post it on the site. You can be contacted by email if you turn on this feature in your profile. Go to Home>settings>account settings and check "new mail messages". When someone clicks on your name in a post, there will be an option to send you an email but they won't see your email address. You can have a signature that says "send me an email by clicking on my name" for example.

For that matter, don't put email addresses in any posts or your profile, either. You can get PMs and emails without revealing your email address.

Every village has their idiot - now Bhuz does too!
