    Embedding vs. linking videos

Is there a way to link the URL for a video without automatically embedding it? A couple of times recently I have wanted to reference something without fully inserting it in the thread, but I don't know how to only put it in "halfway." All I can find is to use the "noparse" tags, which means the link has to be manually cut and pasted. Is there another trick to disable embedding but preserve the hyperlink?

When you post an entry, there's a section below the box where you're typing your entry, with Additional Options. This includes a tickybox for "Automatically convert links into videos", which is ticked by default.

    Untick it.

But what happens when you want to embed some links but not others? I thought that was "all on" or "all off."

Then keep things simple by putting the links you want as links in one brief post/comment and those you want embedded in a follow-up reply/comment?

    Keep it simple!

During one of the earlier iterations of the upgrade, the url tag and the video tag did different things when you gave it a video link, and it looks like they don't anymore. I should have made it clear that I was asking a BB code programming question about whether both functionalities still exist somewhere in the software, since the url tag automatically embeds videos now.

    Testing:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v8LfGr-E-b8
So...do this: Uncheck the box Bea Farhana wrote about. Then use either insert video or insert link. The video tag will make it an embedded video and the link tag will make it a url (only if the box is unchecked).

I was mistakenly assuming that checking the "Automatically convert..." box also disabled the video tag. Thank you, gisela, for clearing that up. This answers my question.
