Thread: Iso bellydance teacher in brooklyn ny!

I have a friend who'd really like to get into bellydance, but needs a local class. Brooklyn the best option for her, but south Manhattan might work too... Suggestions, anyone?

Brooklyn is very big and there are a number of BD teachers there. What part of Brooklyn does she live in? Is she new to belly dance? Does she prefer a particular style of BD or of teaching?

Thanks for the swift reply... She's all the way out at the tip of Coney Island, hence the difficulty! And she's a beginner, but likes the BellyQueen style... I think she'd like to stay within more cabaret type genres, but any foundation would be a start!

Honestly, if she's a fan of BellyQueen, she should just take an express train into NYC. BellyQueen gives classes at 440 Lafayette St.

I've talked to her about it, and it doesn't seem like a bad deal at all... particularly if she's really going to commit to it. But it seems like she wants to take a smaller class to start, to see if she'd like to throw herself into it full time. If there's anyone in Brooklyn, she's interested, so I'd just like to find her some names. I'd love to promise her she'll love it and it'll change her life, because I believe it will, wholeheartedly... but starting smaller/closer to home doesn't seem like a bad idea either.

She could try the YMCAs. She can get guest passes so that way she can try it out first without commitment.
I know there's a Belly dance class at the Dodge Y which is in Cobble Hill. I teach at the Ridgewood Y on Sundays, but it may be far for her (it's the edge of Brooklyn and Queens).

I'm sure there are others closer to her too.. I know there was one nightclub even that was looking for a belly dance teacher in that area a couple of months ago.

Thanks Kitlife... I know there have to be lots of teachers in Brooklyn. Too many creative people in one place not to be dancers there, and good ones. Any help at all is wonderful.

I don't know how good they are or who's teaching there, but I just remembered the club is called Oceana Hall, it's on Brighton Beach Ave, so it should be close to her, have her call and see if they are holding classes ;)

Yes, honestly, I would rather be able to refer her to someone with a good reputation, but I will tell her to check. She's really excited, but I know she's not in a place to just dive in yet.

depending on the class the BQ ones arent that big (that im aware of) and they have a really good rolling in system for new students. the only down side is 440 is a little small
