Thread: Best American online stores!?!?

Hi there! my name is Federica and I am an Italian bellydancer who will be spending 3 weeks in the US (New Jersey/New York) this summer :) I am so excited!

Can you ladies suggest the best online websites in the US as far as bellydance costumes and accessories are concerned?

Besides professional costumes, I was looking to find Isis Wings without the neck tie, I noticed Argentinian bellydancers use them (i.e. Angeles Cayunao on youtube)... you can dance with them and easily switch them from your neck as there isn't a velcro closing.... I hope some of you understand me, it's hard to explain.., !!!

Scheherezade Imports is another large and highly regarded vendor Scheherezade Imports. Their web site looks small, but don't let that fool you.

There are also a few stores in the NYC area. Bellydance stores in NYC?

I would get in touch with Ayshe from New York, she offers all sorts of customizable choices for wings - :: Ayshe :: Passion Bellydance :: Wings of Ayshe :: Ayshe is New York dance artist performing belly dance, Indian dance and fusion styles in theaters, nightlife venues, for private and corporate events. Ayshe designs and produces "Wings of Isis" She's a really nice and helpful person.

And, Bellydance America Belly Dance America is a fantastic place in the New York fashion district (my favorite spot in NYC, lots of awesome fabric stores in midtown, right next to Times Square). Prices are good, especially given the location. I thought they have a wide selection of skirts, wings, fans, shamadans, costumes.

When it comes to the wings you're looking for, if they don't have them, they may be able to advise you on how to modify things, too - I once went there and the owner was in the hallway spray painting props for an upcoming performance, these folks are creative and practical :-)

If you're looking for blingy jewelry, walk down Broadway from Times Square towards Harrods Square. Lots and lots and lots of stores selling jewelry, many do only wholesale, but there is also plenty of retail.

The tie neck is not a problem. We purchase ribbon in matching colors and substitute it for the original neckband. We cut away all but 1/2" of the neckband attached to the pleated fabric and attach the ribbon covering both sides. We leave the ends long so the ties can be knotted and looped. Some select blanket binding since it is so simple to use. But a wide ribbon of any type is OK. I saw one dancer that had utilized glitter dot fabric but she changed it, the fabric irritated her neck and left red marks.
