I had this idea, because I have a really slow DVD player, of making the ultimate practice dvd for myself. So often when I want to get a cardio workout, I'll put in different DVDs in sequence, and just do one section. So I'll do just the full choreography runthrough on a Choreo DVD, just the straight drilling practice on another, just the shimmy drill on another...until I have a long enough workout. The problem is - I have to stop, change DVDs, navigate through the menu systems to get to what I want.
So I thought it would be cool to somehow get the sections I like, and put them all on one DVD so I'd only have to pop in one DVD.
First, is that wrong to do?
Second, has anyone successfully done this? I have Roxio's media import and dvd creator, and a dvd burner. So I could make a compilation DVD technologically - but haven't tried yet with any of the DVDs.
It occurs to me that this could be a good sales opportunity, if someone had a business where you could make a mix & match DVD based on purchased segments, with royalties and payments going to the original authors.

I don't see how it would be wrong if it's for your own use. Do you make compilation CDs of music you own?
As for the tech stuff--you need to be able to "rip" portions of the dvd. Does Roxio do that?
It's a great idea!

You can rip from a DVD with DVD Shrink - it's what I use to make video clips of myself from show DVDs. It's not the easiest program to use, but it makes up for it in that it's free.

Yay, I figured it out. Roxio actually does let you do it with Media Importer and then I just have to make the DVD itself. And surprisingly there isn't any copy protection on some of my dvds.
