executable files rant
OK, this really irritates me. How many executable files do you really need when you reboot your computer? I hate that they are taking up valuable memory, making my download time so sluggish, when Im not even using them.
For example:
Itunes and Ipod: almost 44,000 K.
Quicktime: 21,000 K
Dell support: 13,000 K
HP Director and others: 30,000 K
Every time I reboot I open up my task manager and end these processes. And these are just the files I know. I have no idea what they other ones are for and if they are just sucking up memory.

I assume you're on a Windows machine? Go to the "Start" menu, pick "All Programs", and check for a folder called "Startup". If any of the offending applications have icons in that folder, remove them.

there are a number of different ways to go about this...even free programmes you can download that will walk you through the process (I used ashampoo because there is a LOT going on when you start up that you aren't aware of and which is completely unnecessary - things like remote access etc that most of us just do not use) but...the really easy, quick way:
go to start, run and enter 'msconfig.exe', a box appears, click startup tab and uncheck your unwanted startup programmes (be careful! if you don't know exactly what something does then don't uncheck because it could be something fundamental in your computer) then restart windows. once you've done this, if you decide you *do* want certain programmes to start automatically then just reverse the above process.
p.s. just found a microsoft site (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/u...storeperf.mspx) that you may be interested in reading.Last edited by bul_bul_ksa; 05-26-2007 at 01:39 AM.

Id rather stick myself in the eye with my cane than get mac. I even wrote a song about how much I abhor Imacs.

heh
Anytime we PC users have any issue the response from the Mac users is get a Mac - which is no solution of course. I too would rather poke myself in the eye than change systems right now. Although, I will say that the cute Mac guy on TV is appealing....:)
I have to say that my experience on my old computer and my brand spanking new super fast one is that iTunes is a huge culprit in terms of start up. In fact it really annoys me beyond belief...for compatibility with iTunes - I suppose the "get a mac" option is the right option. but I don't use iTunes enough to warrant it.
