Blogger Vs. WordPress
For those of you who blog, would you recommend Blogger or Wordpress and why?
Also, is there anyone who designs/sets-ups blogs here?
Thanks!

Re: Blogger Vs. WordPress
I use Wordpress to store my workshop notes, and for my personal angsty diary.
I like Wordpress because I can add entry tags very easily, making it easy to retrieve workshop notes on particular topics, or by particular teachers. I can keep both blogs private, so that only I can read them. I can store pictures there (although I don't have any particular need to do so, for those blogs). I found the whole set up to be quite intuitive and easy to get into, from an early stage.
I haven't used blogger since I first messed around with the idea of a blog maybe four years ago, so I don't know how Wordpress & Blogger would compare, but I can definitely say I like Wordpress.
ETA- But for social blogging I use LiveJournal, which I love with quite a passion! ;)Last edited by beafarhana; 10-20-2008 at 11:13 PM.

Here you go:
WordPress.com » Get a Free Blog Here
Details of the features that are included are here:
The Features You’ll Love « WordPress.com
Also, I just remembered something else that isn't officially part of Wordpress's features, but it's possible to save your Wordpress blog as a pdf file, using another site (BlogBooker), which is another cool thing about using Wordpress.

Re: Blogger Vs. WordPress
I'd agree that Wordpress.com is your best bet. I used to use the standalone Wordpress on my site (you can also install Wordpress, if you have a web server), and mostly enjoyed it.
So far as designing, wordpress.com doesn't allows much in the way of customizing your look and feel; Blogger, from what I understand, allows more, but I've found it a hard platform to work with day-to-day. For wordpress, you can change to a preset theme, and make minor changes thereof, and you can buy a "Edit CSS" option that will allow many more changes. But I'd agree with the Help File on wordpress.com, "If you want complete control over your enviroment, you’re probably better off running WordPress on a great web host of your own."
Prehaps I might ask, what exactly are you looking to do here? Do you just want a blog to work with? Are you aiming for a more Professional look, maybe something that intergrates with your website? I do some design work, but I'm booked for awhile out, and it's possible a extant theme might do the trick for you, depending on what you need.

I just started using Wordpress too...I found there are a ton of themes, but very limited ones for being able to use your own header. There are so many widgets and plugins...I feel so overwhelmed!! LOL

Re: Blogger Vs. WordPress
I have a question. I understand the appeal of social blogging such as what people do on LiveJournal. And I understand the appeal of public blogging where people want to publish stuff like their research findings without the hassle of dealing with html.
But, for writings that you intend to keep private, why would you put those on a remote web site? I wouldn't want to, because I'd be afraid the site I'd chosen would go out of business and I'd lose all my material that I had stored there. A lot of people on tribe.net are actually quite worried right now that if tribe does go under, they'll lose all their blogs.

Re: Blogger Vs. WordPress
It's simply that it's easy to write to a blog. Yes, actually easier than writing in Word. And if you're already writing a public blog, and it has a private option, many people will use that option.
More than that, and I think you're getting into why people do anything online, and much of that, overall, is simply "I use it because it's there".

Re: Blogger Vs. WordPress
It's just a place I can store them online. I store them on my puter at home, too. So they're well backed up. But I used to do a lot of locum work and it was handy for me to be able to access certain personal material from work computers.
And like Asim said, it's kind of easier than setting up lots of word files, and it allows me to tag entries for ease of retrieval.
