I don't understand You Tube

I have tried to upload to You Tube numerous times and I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I have uploaded the file types they say and it still tells me that it failed and could not read file type.
I don't get it!!

What kind of file is it (.avi, .mpg, .wma), and how large is the file? I believe the limit is 100MB and no more than 10 minutes long.

I personally have had the best luck uploading .wma files - they are small, relatively good quality, and YouTube seems to process them fairly quick. Most Windows computers come with Windows Movie Maker already installed, which you can use to convert the file type to a .wma.

I don't think it's possible for a video file to be that small. Are you able to open the files and play them on your computer?

After you check that the file is playable on your computer, make sure you don't push any buttons until the file is fully uploaded and you get the "success" message on youtube. If I interrupted the process, it always resulted in failure.

I agree - are you sure that's KB, not MB?

Are you getting the footage from a video camera? And if so, what software are you using to take it from the camera and make it into the avi/mpg/wma? It sounds to me like the software is creating a file with a lot of information missing - an avi, especially, should be hundreds and hundreds of megabytes.

Mahira, if the files really are that small, why don't you email them to me - I can goof around a bit and see if I can figure out what the deal is. You can take the girl out of tech support, but you can't take the tech support out of the girl.

I've had the same problem. While I was successful loading a video last fall I have had no success at all from the same videographer and I too am banging my head against a wall. A friend of mine was successful and that stumps me even more. I've done all of the above suggestions but still no success. So if you are looking for company to go with your misery, I'm it. BTW, I'm having the same bad luck on MySpace too. ..cr.:..cr.:..cr.:

I determined that Mahira's problem was that the process or software she was using was not actually creating video clips, even though the resulting file did indeed have .wmv and .avi extensions in the file names.

A good test is to see if you can open the file on your computer using Windows Media Player. If WMP will not open it, it's likely the file itself is the issue, not YouTube.
