    A burning (sound) question

I have scanned the forum and haven;t seen an answer to this, so let's see what happens. . .

Last night I had a gig at an Indian Restaurant. It was a blast, but there seemed to be a problem with the sound. I was using a burned disc with sogs from several different CD's and each song payed at a different level of volume. Which was weird. I tested the CD using my Walkman (and through the stereo system in my car) and didn't notice this variation, but I may have been delusional.

Anyway, does anyone know how, when I am burning the disc, that I can make the sound levels more consistent?

(BTW - the audience was very understanding.)

    Thanks!

when I burn there is an option to "normalize" all audio files before it starts the burn process. I kind of assumed that this did what you are asking about, but I haven't actually tested it.

do you have a music editor also? if your burning software doesn't have any option for this, you can probably adjust each song in an editor.

iTunes has something you can select when you burn playlists to disk to equalize song volume. I have actually tried burning the same 2 songs which had different volume levels with and without it, and it definitely made a difference. I can't look at it now (wrong place, wrong computer), but I think it's called "sound check?" "Use sound check?" Maybe someone else here can either confirm that or straighten me out on what it's called.

Anybody know how to add an applause pause after each song in an ITunes playlist? I dont burn a CD -I use it straight from computer to speakers. My dancers are running over each other getting on and off the floor in time.

I don't know of a way to make iTunes do this, but you could create some empty tracks of 5 seconds (or whatever you need) in a music editor, and then put these between each song. You'd only need to make one file for each gap length you need.

I don't use iTunes, but I do have a few tracks such as "10 sec silence" that I can add to a playlist for various purposes. Can you create such a track with a music editor and then add it to iTunes?

I did that..but I am sick of it asking me "you sure you want to add a duplicate???? " 18 times as I compile my set list! Low tolerance for appliance nagging...

When you hit "burn disk", the pop up window has a preference for "gap between songs". You can add in up to 5 seconds between each song.
