    Windows Movie Maker

OK, I have a video that for some reason is in the .mov format when I upload it to the computer. WMM doesn't recognize it and I've even tried to convert it to .avi. Help!

Since I don't use Windows Movie Maker, I can't comment on how to get the file into a format it recognizes, but at least I can tell you what an .mov file is.

.mov is the format that is created by Apple's QuickTime technology.

Thanks Shira! Is that a default setting that I might be able to change in some way, do you think?

If you don't already have Quicktime installed on your computer, I recommend you get it. You can download a free version that will play videos for you, or for a really cheap price, you can buy Quicktime Pro online. Quicktime pro offers tons of features including converting video files to various formats.
BTW, even though I'm a Mac girl, I'm well versed in PC too. I recently used Movie Maker for a grant proposal video presentation for my work. It was a nightmare to work with. It certainly it's a professional tool like Final Cut Pro but I found even iMovie was more reliable. I understand not everyone is fortunate enough to be on a Mac ..g.: so if you continue to use Movie Maker, make sure your movie does not exceed 10 minutes. If it does, break it up into smaller pieces, export and reassemble the pieces in a new file.
    Good luck!

Thanks everyone! I did have Quicktime installed on my computer, but Movie Maker does not recognize .mov files, which are the default for Quicktime.

So, for others with this problem, what I did was convert using an opensource AVI converter and then download an AVI codec pack. Worked fine!
