    Music editing software?

Hope this is the right forum..

Can anyone recommend a decent, user-friendly, free music editing software program? I need to chop 15-16seconds off one song & put it at the beginning of another, seamlessly. It's the same song, just two versions & one has a different beginning but the 2nd is shorter/sounds better overall, I think.

    Anyway, suggestions appreciated :)

I used to use Sound Forge when I was in a computer math course. I enjoyed it. I can't remember the version I used, but because it was through a school, it was an advanced one. There are simpler versions, like the one from Sony. You can download a 30 day trial of Sound Forge and use it with most of the features that you need. Let me find the link and I will post it.

I'll post both links. You can check out both, but I used the first link:

Sony Creative Software - Sound Forge 9 audio editing software & music editor - Free Download

    Download Sound Forge free

    I use Adobe Audition...
    I edit/mix together/cut/increase the volume...like other programs.
It is easy to use, just open the song with Audition, highlight the part you like to cut and delete, and you can save it as any format, preferebly mp3 of course, small/quality.

Third for Audacity - if you search the Bhuz archives, there is plenty of advice on solving the common problems one can run into in the beginning.

There's always Garage Band if you have a more recent Mac.

Mine is older, so I use a dated copy of Pro Tools Free, which was an 8 track version of Pro Tools that works with MacOS 8.6.

What you're wanting to do is pretty easy in most audio editing programs and pro video editing tools like Final Cut Pro or Adobe Premiere.

Instead of cutting from one clip to the other, make sure to overlap the clips (starting with both sound files in different tracks/layers) and do a quick cross fade between the two for a more seamless transition. You should be able to nudge one track forward or backward in the cross fade to get it just right. And, if the volumes or tone don't quite match up, you can make subtle adjustments.

    All the best,
