Back it up
Last night was fun: I got me a serious computer virus. I just clicked on a website, too. Straight from Google. Something started downloading into my computer, then Acrobat started loading up, and next thing I know I'm getting slammed by an anti-virus protection software saying I've got ten viruses loaded in my computer. I knew it would be a lousy night.
The laptop belongs to my husband --he works in IT -- so he has spent hours attempting to fix it. This thing has attached itself to almost everything in my computer. I've got a load of music, videos, and documents, including my work for the last five years, on the computer which he's in the middle of saving. He can save the documents without a problem but there are other things that might be lost if he has to reimage the whole damn thing. And, even if he does save it, it's a lot of work! I'm fairly certain he can do it because he's done similar things in the past for his porn-watching friends. Yeah, they call him whenever they get in trouble. And, no, I wasn't browsing the porn sites. The page I visited didn't even open all the way.
If it weren't for his advanced skills, I'd be in serious trouble. So, just a reminder to update your virus-protection software and backup your documents, music, video, etc...

Re: Back it up
Sounds like a worm to me. Good idea to back up data... check your backups for viruses too.

Yeap, it's far worse than he expected. He has to reimage the computer to delete all of the registries. It's not the first time he has done it to that computer (it's a hand-me-down) but the first time since I've had it. I have two laptops, thank God, but this one is super s-l-o-w.

Yuck. I am so sorry. If you use Google Chrome as your browser, it will give you a big fat warning if you try to click on a infected site from Google search results.

Re: Back it up
Google Chrome? You learn a little of everything on Bhuz.
The computer was quickly reimaged yesterday; his firm already has a profile they can re-install on it. He salvaged my personal stuff through the backend but I still have to re-install all of the software programs. He says it's one of the worst he has seen, called Generic Artemis! Should I be proud? It's the first time I messed things up this bad.
