    Increasing volume on iTunes

I know we all get songs--great songs---which won't play loud enough to mix w/ other songs in a playlist. iTunes lets you adjust the volume a little--but this isn't enough. Does anyone know a way to do this? I have a Mac---i bought Garage Band but haven't played w/ it yet-----scared of the hours of learning curve.

You can do it right in itunes. If you right-click on the song and select 'get info' from the drop-down menu, then choose the 'volume' tab, there's an adjustment slider.

Also, if you burn CDs, make sure 'sound check' is turned off in the burning prefs. It's a great idea to levelize sound across the CD, but it just doesn't seem to work right.

Thanks---i've done both of those. Some songs it's not enough. Like some of the old ones that came from cassette. Like George Abdo---his stuff can't be on a CD w/ newer stuff---it was recorded( or what ever they do) at a lower level than the newer stuff.

Ahhh. Yes, some of the older recordings just have poor sound quality, especially when they've been transferred from one media to another.

I suppose it's possible to 'remaster' them, clean them up, boost the volume.. probably using a program like Audacity, you can download it, it's free. It would take more skill than I have to clean it up (but you can boost volume with Audacity).

I actually preferred Sound Studio, which was an app that came FREE loaded onto my mac. But my new Mac didn't come with it, so I'm trying to get used to Audacity rather than buy Sound Studio. I suppose it's more powerful, but it's also MUCH more complicated, and the things I want to do should be SIMPLE.

(sorry that last bit had nothing to do with your question... just getting it off my chest...)

    GarageBand FAQ: Import Audio FIle

I think i just did it---thank God for the geeks---that's my usual resource--just Google your question and see what they say. Click and drag the song to Garage Band---then used the sliders to adjust volume. there are 2 sliders. I'll check it out but i think it was simpler than i thought. then Garage Band has a selection of " Share" send to iTunes.
The song is " Pharonic Odyssey"---Jillina i think produced it herself cause i bought it from her at a workshop. When i used it at my restaurant---to make it loud enough---something stopped the cd player w/ overload--maybe their amp. or pre-amp.
Gosh darn it ---i want to use this song---i guess i can now!!
