    Need Audacity help

    Total Audacity noob here...

I downloaded Audacity several days ago & tonight successfully shortened a song & exported it as a .wav. But, when I tried to burn it to disc, Windows Media Player tells me it can't recognize how long the track is so it won't/can't burn it. What can I do?

Also, could someone please tell me how to make two songs run together as one song when it's played?

Here's how to combine two tracks

    FAQ - Audacity Manual

Sorry I don't know the answer to the problem about the length of the song.

Can Windows Media Player play it? Maybe it got corrupted during the export. Did you try re-exporting it or exporting it as MP3 or WMA?

I've had this happen sporadically with Audacity, and have been able to work around it by playing the track all the way through with WMP, and then closing and reopening WMP. The burn seems to work for me then.

Have you tried burning it as an mp3 then playing it in wmp? Or is it you need it in a wav for a reason? There's a way around it but its hard because you prob have the free version like I do. Download this and you won't have the problem again, it will be just one step after you make the mp3 Koyote Soft

sorry, delayed response - I need it in wav because the place I dance at has to have wav to play it. Their sound system/music is played off a computer so if it's mp3 it won't work.

    Re: Need Audacity help

    Hi,
you know when you chose "audio cd" in the menu it automatically converts to .wav also if the source file is .mp3.
If you want to burn .mp3 you create a data cd.
You can burn cds easily with Nero and also with iTunes. I don't see why the Windows thing wouldn't want to recognize .wav but I generally avoid Microsoft apart from the Office Package.
Cut, copy and paste are the most important functions ever - to me.
You open two files in audacity one for each track. You chose "select all" in the track you want to glue behind the other one, then after you have selected you go to "copy" and then go to the other file and put the cursor at the end of the other track, and then go "paste". Then again, "select all" and "export selection" to (I'd chose .mp3 always in order not to store huge amount of data on my hard disk, like .wav is simply too big).

Listen to the two tracks in one first. It might be nice to fill in a couple of seconds of silence in between the two songs, for applause and so and for having a better transition.

What was the original file format before you edited it? If media player plays the wav it should burn it as an audio cd. If the dance place needs it in wav then just copy it as a data file on a data cd using windows explorer.

Are you talking about the Shisha? If so, my cds are always mp3 files and I've never had any problems with them. If it's somewhere else, then never mind. :D

Not sure if it will work, try playing the complete song in Windows media, Windows may find the time signature then. It worked for me a few times, but not every time. Worth a try. :-)
