Blog Me
Hiya :)
I started a blog a few months back because my web designer suggested it would boost my web traffic and listing status. Well, we never got the blog hooked into my website, and I got busy with other stuff.
Now I'm on it for the heck of it and discovering what blogging is all about.
Please post your blog or blogs you would recommend others check out or follow!
I'd love to be following other b-dance or b-dance related blogs, and find out what else is out there beyond bellydance that's interesting.
Also, please post any blogging tips if you have any :)
Here's my blog - Mirabai Dance

Re: Blog Me
Hi Mirabai
I have a blog on LiveJournal, Strictly Dancing, but a lot of the really juicy stuff is friends only and filtered- anyone reading it who wants More is encouraged to friend me to see it!
The main thing I'd say about blogging is that it's your house, your rules. It's there for you to say whatever you want to say to the world. I don't use blogspot, so I don't know what all its capabilities are, but I love the fact that I can post stuff publicly, or completely privately just for me, or for any select group of friends I choose.Last edited by beafarhana; 10-25-2009 at 07:26 AM.

Here's my blog:

Your web guy is definitely onto something. Blogging has been ridiculously helpful for my search ranking - jumped from page 5 of a Google search to page 1 in about 3 months. That's no easy feat in my region.
Writing for blogs, IMO, is different from writing for other internet platforms. The key is to keep it fun, engaging and useful to your reader. IMO, event listings and other self-promotional stuff is best kept to your own website, Facebook or Twitter. Your blog is your place to shine. Whether you write stuff that's funny, or informative, or reflective, the immediate goal is not to market yourself per se, but to connect with an audience.
Don't be afraid to show a real, organic side of yourself in your blog. Obviously, use your discretion. I was a little unsure how well this approach would go over at first. But lately I've been getting some interesting (though seemingly counterintuitive) feedback from clients: they actually find it endearing and appealing that I present more as a super-cool real person than as a mystery woman. People have hired me because I gave off a glam-yet-approachable vibe. You can only blog about grooming your unicorn so many times before it starts to get boring ..l;,.w.:

Re: Blog Me
My blog is in my signature. It delves into my life of trying to get back on my feet now more than dance, but I hope that changes sooner than later (like November sooner).
I get about 300-400 hits a month on my blog by itself. I consider that pretty successful, since it is niche and I'm not a blogging celebrity. If you go to events, love certain costumes, or something with keywords, you should blog about it. Some of my more successful posts are reviews of workshops or dance items I buy.

How can you tell how many hits you're getting?

Re: Blog Me
I strongly recommend implementing Google Analytics for that kind of information. It's soemwhat technical, but frankly you're best not to trust almost anything for accurate hit-counting on a website; GA comes pretty close, though.

Re: Blog Me
I let my blog languish for a while, but Andrea hauled me out to a workshop this past weekend, and now I am on fire about dancing again!
I ordered just over a dozen new CD's this morning, so I will have a lot to talk about, and I'll be posting reviews of the workshop as well.
Bellydance Experiences
I recently did a bit of a re-design, so it looks a little more glam than it used to, also less cluttered. (If you're an RSS addict like me, the link to the feed is in the header)(Also, you can receive my posts in your email, if you prefer. Sign up in the box on the upper right of the page)

Re: Blog Me
Thank you! It's a very nice warm feeling to know I was missed.
I had totally lost my dance mojo earlier this year, but a good workshop goes a long way towards turning that around (And now I have an enormous teacher crush on yet another instructor)

I just started my blog, and I'm not sure where I'll go with it, but I like the idea of using it for reviews - I may also use it to discuss topics I'd like to share with my students.
So far, only two tiny entries since I set it up the other day (don't get excited yet, haha):
