how to tether phone to laptop?
I have a tmobile mytouch (love it love it)...looks like I will need to pick up a usb cord to plug into the computer. Is it that easy? Is there anything else to do to pick up internet from my phone?
My internet signal in my apartment is piss poor so I'm hoping to connect thru my phone which is 3g. The nearest tmobile is not walking distance so I can't get the cord today..
aloha

Re: how to tether phone to laptop?
You'll need to download tetherberry to your computer. There is an added fee every month. I think they'll give you a free trial period, but I don't know how long it is.
Here's what my SO says: If it works with your phone, go to tether.com come to see if your phone is supported. Then dowload the program to computer and your phone.
Don't do this UNTIL you have your USB cable, because you get a 7 day free trial that begins as soon as you download. Tether will be down this Saturday from 11:00pm to 1:00am EST.
If tether doesn't work on your phone, there may be others out there for your phone. My sweetie is looking into it for you.
:-)
Check out pdanet, it's software for tethering, and they make it for different kinds of phones. See your if phone is listed.

Re: how to tether phone to laptop?
what kind of computer do you have? Tetherberry is not necessary for everyone. And you may only be able to tether via Edge rather than 3G.

Re: how to tether phone to laptop?
My computer is a Compaq, with Window Vista also.
When you get it all downloaded, all you have to do is click on 'tether' on the computer, then click it on the phone, wait for the 'globe' to show up on the task bar...and you're good to go online!
I love it! I can take my computer anywhere; that my phone will work!

Re: how to tether phone to laptop?
Depends on the phone. My old Nokia 6120 used an ordinary USB cable. My New Nokia 6720 has a special USB cable. Big Fail!
Then you will probably need to install the software that came with the phone.

Re: how to tether phone to laptop?
It depends on the telephone service, and your phone.
Most of the time, it takes about the same amount of time, as a regular computer
My new blackberry 3G constantly keeps 'reloading' itself (leaving me unable to use my phone at all).
During peak times, it takes a little longer, and sometimes...I can't get online at all for a while, I also get bumped off.
However my SO doesn't have the same problems I do.
His blackberry rarely has to reload.
He has an older blackberry, and he uses 'Google Chrome' to navigate the web, he rarely has a problem going online, and staying online.
Even with the problems I have...I still LOVE it!
