anti-virus software thoughts
I am researching anti-virus software, I have heard Norton slows computers and is a bit dated. Here's a link to some of the info I found. Suggestions, feedback?

I have heard positive thoughts re Kaspersky. Interested in feedback from Bhuz.

I have had a great experience with AVG, and it's free!

Re: anti-virus software thoughts
We've used Norton's for years and have never had any problems. The new Norton's 2010 version is even better imo.
I don't find it very slow, and we have never, ever had a virus at home! (knock on wood)
I had a "computer" friend explain it to me this ways when I asked him his opinion on which "big name" anti-virus is best:
It's kind like a car: You think Ford is best, someone else says Chevy, while someone else prefers Hondas. And alot of it has to do with what options you are looking for.

We use Avast. It's free. My husband, the computer guru in the house, highly recommends it.

Re: anti-virus software thoughts
I've been using free AVG for years now and think it's pretty good. However, some malware has gotten past it. Recently, a puter geek acquaintance, who should know, recommended Microsoft Security Essentials. Also free, from Microsoft. For Windows systems, of course.

I've been using Eset for about a year, no problems. Seems to be updating its virus signatures every day or so.

Re: anti-virus software thoughts
I've used Trend Pcillin, Norton, Mcafee, they are all rather large programs and Eset Node32 was recommended as it is suitable for gaming which my husband and son are into, so I purchased a 3 user one and I am very happy with it. The other 3 caused problems with gaming at times and the 2 men were very frustrated with it. I use Avira free on my little notebook because I only use that when i travel, it isn't as big as AVG.

Re: anti-virus software thoughts
I've had Eset NOD32 for over a year and it's been great.
I was listening to a radio program that had computer guys taking calls and they said that McAfee is really bad and that Norton was better than McAfee.
An IT guy for a major corp. told me to use AVG and AVAST a couple of years ago and it was ok for awhile and then some truly nasty virus got through and it was hell.
That's my two cents.

Re: anti-virus software thoughts
I dont know what program to recommend, but I would NOT use Mcafee. Even when its NOT active, it somehow made my system crawl. And it was absolutely horrid to try to uninstall.

Re: anti-virus software thoughts
I'm using Kaspersky- seems very good and my system runs a lot faster than it did with Norton...last week *something* got through and I just sort of lost Windows altogether, most upsetting! So the tech guy I called out, who is ex-RAF IT, recommended Kaspersky... he told me it was developed by ex-KGB guys and it's what the military recommend!
Anyways...it seems to be ok...
