Spinoff of the laptop thread---Did anyone buy an IPAD?

I'm not in the market for one, but I am curious.
I love my little electronics.....did anyone buy an IPAD? If so what do you think?

Although it seems cool, I'm not sure what someone would really need
it for, and for the price what are you really getting other than a toy?

I am not in the market, either, but I REALLY would like to have one - it's an iPhone w/o phone and an oversized iPod Touch, which is what I'd love to have. Read the paper when you have to wait for the bus, listen to music, have maps handy, Bhuz in the yard, youtube in the grocery checkout line ... ;-)

I saw one in Canada and it looks very pretty and fun. The one thing I would find weird about it is that it has no cover - I'd live in terror of scratching it all the time.

    They are not expensive!

Basically it is a portable browser. It is not meant to replace a *serious* computer. Really it is nicely addressing the divide that is opening between those that require these highly powered, super-fast desktops and those that just want to check emails, a few web sites and look at digital photos.

My dad bought one. It's fabulous. I'll probably wait a few years before I get one. Just as I waited a few years before I got my iPhone. I do love my iPhone :)

I played with one in the store and wasn't impressed. I feel like the typing was harder for me than it is on the iPhone. For me, the iPad doesn't offer enough to really make it worthwhile. Whatever I need to do can be done on my iPhone or is heavy-duty enough to justify schlepping around my laptop.

That's how other companies can come in and market cases, like the iPod cases. If the iPad screen is made out of the material as the iPhone screen, it should be not 100% scratch resistant (my phone has 2 scratches on it somehow) but fairly good about not getting scratched

    I love my iPhone too

I don't need an iPad for anything at this point, and too expensive just
for fun...but I so love my electronic toys that I know I won't be able
    to resist for long......

I can't imagine using them to type on. To read stuff, yes.

I'm a passionate Macmonkey. I use my desktop for most stuff, but my hubby's old laptop for convenient email checks, in-bed Bhuzzing, powerpoint (keynote that is) presentations, etc, all of which would be handled by the Ipad just fine. I figure when the old laptop becomes obsolete or dies, I'll go for the Ipad as my supplementary thingy. And yes, I looove my ipod touch.

Anisah.. I loved my iPhone so much, my first week with it, I wanted to make out with it. But I feared that the moisture would render it useless. One of my students suggested I put it in a ziplock baggie first! :)

Not in the market, but played with one for about 45 mins in the Apple store last week. Too funny, hubby was on one too, we were side by side. Of course, I was bhuzzing! and of course now we want one or two :)

I can see some very good uses for it - but for myself, I'd much prefer a netbook. Way cheaper, has a real keyboard, and folds up to protect the screen which is anti-glare and non-gloss.

Plus a netbook can actually multitask (bhuzz while talking on AIM, for example)

Re: Spinoff of the laptop thread---Did anyone buy an IPAD?

It sure looks like fun - I watched someone playing a game where you tilted the iPad to make virtual balls run through a virtual maze and drop in virtual holes. I love my iPhone, so could imagine falling in love with an iPad too.

BUT, it's not lightweight like an iPhone, and is heavier than carrying a book in your bag. Plus typing is tough if you're holding it at the same time. At an angle, all you can see on the screen is fingerprints. And it'd be an absolute target for muggers, so playing with it on the train (which should be the perfect place for playing) could be risky.

I'll be waiting until they develop something lighter weight, and cheaper.

You can also print from a netbook.

Even though I'm a netbook supporter/enthusiast/believer - and don't know that much about the iPad - I'd "expect" to be able to do these things on one. If you truly cannot, I'd be both surprised and disappointed. Its bad enough that it doesn't support Flash - although I'm in complete agreement with Jobs on the subject; but Flash is part of Internet life, like it or not...

Printing and multi-tasking on the iPad are a problem. You have to sync back to a Mac/PC or try to find working 3rd-party apps to allow you to print.

    Or you can try this:

As for current iPads, they can't run 2 apps at the same time. I think this is supposed to be fixed sometime in the fall with OS upgrade.
