How the heck to you edit video?

I have a 30 min. Vhs tape that I want to convert to digital and make a 10 minute demo out of. What is the easiest way?

I have Nero 9 and Roxio My DVD 10 Premier. I actually have the video downloaded on my hard drive. What is the next step?

Or, in the alternative: I already have the clips I want as separate titles. Is there a way to combine them into one title so I can convert and upload to youtube as one single track?

Do you have Windows Movie Maker? Have you tried importing the clips into that, so you can work with them there?

If you've already converted the clips from vhs into a digital format then its a breeze and a lot of fun. If you haven't yet done the conversion let me know and I'll be very happy to walk you through it, its time consuming as it has to be done in 'real time' but worth the effort.
If you have your clips in digital format, then simplest way to make a clip for YouTube is using Movie Maker, its a user friendly piece of software. Import the clips into MM then the fun stuff starts, use MM's tools to smooth out any transitions between the different clips, add titles, add some still photos if you'd like. Once you've finished, be sure to SAVE your project, set up a folder for your dance videos and keep them all together in one place. Then click on 'Make Movie". Choose the format you want to use .wmv seems to take the shortest time to convert. Once conversion is complete, watch the complete clip again just to double check that everything is the way you want it. Next step, upload to YouTube (remember their 10 min time limit).
    Hope it goes well.

I do have Windows Movie Maker. I can't figure out how to cut clips. Need detail. I did put the clp in the timeline but now I lost the video and just have audio.

I should be able to do the same thing with Roxio Videowave.I just can't figure it out.

In WMM, you put markers in the clip, where you want the clip to start, and where you want it to end. WMM then splits the movie into those sections, and you hide the sections at the start, and at the end, that you don't want to show.

Well this is where I am so far. I converted the video to wfm format, so now I have video and audio. But when I went to import it, it is in dozens and dozens of little clips. It's not one large clip that I can mark. Plus it only imported a portion of the video.

WMM has done this to me before when the video I'm importing is of a very large size. It's like it needs to break it up in order to actually import it.

Just highlight the separate imported clips, then go to Clips---> Combine. It will combine all if them into one.

    Okay. I did that.

Now could I get a screen print or directions on how to do the markers.

Geez, I'm supposed to be studying for an exam! But this is driving me crazy!

I think maybe I got it. I ended up doing it in videowave. Now I have to convert yet again iin Videowave as my normal conversion program which can convert anything doesn't recognise the roxio videowave format and youtube didn't recognise it either. I'm in the process of converting it to avi mp4 format. It is taking forever. Keep fingers crossed.

Okay, here is my first attempt. I lost a LOT of video quality, especially in the color. Plus it freezes and skips a lot. Movements are a little bit off the music. I may do a redo one day once I'm more experienced. But after hours of listening and watching this 1/2 hour video, I'm sick of it and will attempt another project.
