Please, help me with my Word document!
I re-installed my Microsoft Word 2002 and noticed that all my documents turned into HTML- I think. I can open File and now have Favorites on these documents. Can't open Edit, View, Insert, Format, Tool and Table. ..cr.:
Thank you, Apadana!!!

Are you double-clicking on documents to open them? If so, try opening Word from your Start Menu, and then opening the document from within that.
It sounds to me like Windows somehow re-mapped your Word documents to open in Internet Explorer, thus the Favorites. I can't reproduce it on my machine, but it does do something like that on my systems at work.
Hope this helps!

Sounds like a file association problem. Try the "Help" option in your Windows Explorer. There's usually a way to set up a certain application (i.e. Word) to open all documents with a specific extension (i.e. .doc).
Good luck!

Dear Asim1,
I looked up Microsoft's support website on Word 2002 and found the following: Start Word and on the File menu, All Files and locate the document. I was able to find my original document that way but couldn't restore it per instruction.
What is so strange is that my documents on hard drive; also on my floppy disks have been effected by HTML.
I am so computer challenged.....
Thanks so much for your help

Can find the original versions
Hi Jaded,
I have been able to find the original versions of all my documents but can't restore them back. Thank goodness I can at least find the original versions otherwise I would be in deep...
Just yesterday my MSN Live Hotmail is not letting me control my font sizes. Called the help desk about 3 times and no one can help me with this problem at MSN
Thanks for your help
Apadana

Well at least you found the originals!
If you right-click on one of the files, does it give you the option to "rename" the file? If yes, then rename it with the extension ".doc" (for example, mymemo.doc). Once it is renamed, right-click again and select "Open With" and then slide the mouse over to select "Word" as the application.
Good luck!

Are your documents now <name>.html? - if not they are still Word docs.
Could it be that the Web toolbar has been turned on by accident? To check, In Word - View, Toolbars - uncheck "Web"

Found something
Hi Kashmir,
The web is off. But I tried to figure out what is different since I re-installed Word. When I retrieve my document, I now get this dialogue box:
You have chosen to download a file from this location. Then I check to my document and out comes this HTML looking document. I have looked in my Word 2002 student manual but couldn't find anything about this dialogue box and even looked Microsoft's website. Do you know how to get rid of this box?
Thanks so much,
Apadana

How are you trying to access the document? From within Word? from Windows Explorer? from Internet Explorer? from ...?

Thank you all for helping with this problem!
My brother's friend, a computer expert, suggested this solution and it worked:
Type of Word File Open With
1. Right click on icon document
2. Go to properties
3. General
4. Type of file open with
5. Change
6. Find and select the file you want the document to open with
