Please help! Editing, Copying, Posting Video to FB/youtube/web

    Hi, a few questions.

    1) I have a copy of the DVD of our troupes perfromance at Rakkasah and I'd like to post it on our FB fanpage. I have no idea where to start!! Someone told me I have to copy the "video" to my computer then I can upload, ok, how do I do that?

    2) How do you take "video" from multiple DVD's and cut it, so that you can mix it together to create a seperate video? Basically a demo DVD that shows snippets of several performances?

I have no clue when it comes to stuff like this!

    Please help! Thanks.

You need to rip the dvd (or the bit of it that you want to post to YT or FB) onto your harddrive (or a memory stick), in the same way that you rip a cd to your computer in order to load it on your mp3 player.

You can buy dvd ripper software, but I use AoA DVD Ripper, Convert DVD to AVI, DVD to iPod MP4, as their free trial version allows you to rip 10 minutes of dvd footage, and that's always been enough for me. Both AVI and mp4 formats will be fine for uploading to YT.

Once you've got a clip that you want to upload to YT/FB it's just a question of following the instructions there-that bit's simple!

As for editing clips together, I guess you can use windows moviemaker, but that's not something I've attempted yet.

But you might also want to use Moviemaker to make your video clip a bit nicer, with titles, or fading in & out again at the end.

bea, thank you for your reply! I'm using AoA right now, it's the first time that I try to convert a file from dvd to avi and hoping everything will work the way it's supposed to.

I just downloaded the AoA free trail but it doesn't have the load DVD option available. It converts other formats, but that's not what I need. Guess I will have to buy the software.

Oh, I see now that I downloaded the converter, not the ripper. Trying again.

it worked for me, first ripped the dvd to the computer then converted it with AoA. It's not ready for uploading yet, have to do some editing to make up for the wacky camera work.

I am interested in ordering the full software because I have a lot of stuff to rip and would like to extract the audio from some old DVDs of my band. Does anyone know how important it is to order the back-up CD? It's another 14.95. I can't seem to find info on the site abut the importance of having the back-up CD.

p.s. I just emailed them, if I find the answer I will post it here.
