Surely there are free photo galleries available for showcasing a vendor's items ..with a photo and a space to list a description of the item?

it can be an external site, I'm currently using picturetrail ..

Picasa Web Albums through Google??? You can have all the photos on your computer, do editing with Picasa then upload to the web album. You can also embed the web album in a page with a slideshow. Something to look at for a comparison with others.
