Need to replace CD Boombox - Recs?

Last week, the boom box I use for one of my classes was stolen from the supply closet. It wasn't anything fancy, but it was good and loud, and the park & rec has offered to reimburse me up to $50 to replace it.

Can anyone recommend a decent, fairly loud and not tinny-sounding boom box in that price range? I really want one with a aux in jack, so I can hook my MP3 player up to it from time to time. It should be portable, but it doesn't have to be super light as for the most part it stays in the classroom.

That particular one doesn't seem to have very good reviews. Mine is a few years old now...

    Zombie thread alert!!!
I am in a similar situation now. Looking for a boom box that plays mp3 & cds that is portable. I'll have to carry it back and forth weekly to the gym so it can't be too cumbersome.
Laura - what did you end up with?
    Thanks

Any suggestions? What did you buy Laura? I too am finding myself in a situation where I need a good portable sound system. Would love any good suggestions before I spend the $$$$'s!

I bought an "X-plode" from Best Buy. It's pricey, around $100 but AWESOME. Gets very very loud, has CD and mp3 aux cord that is attached so you can't lose it. It's big and bulky, but not too bad. Has sub-whoofers in it that you can elect to turn on or off or somewhere in the middle. Definitely worth the dollars.

Thank you! I'll check it out and I found out that if the store doesn't have the item in stock you want, you can order it form them on-line and have it delivered to the store closest to yo and save SH&!!!!!! I can deal with big and bulky, and can swing the price tag. (birthday coming up so great excuse to buy it now!)
Once again, thank you! You made my day! Patricia
