    Unhappy Burned out Monitor?

Can a monitor burn out like a light bulb?

Three days ago my desktop monitor was working fine. Yesterday I tried to use the computer and the monitor button light wasn't on. I always leave it on.

I checked my connections and I tried pushing the button several times and it wouldn't start or light up. I can hear the computer working, but the monitor isn't.

Is it possible that my monitor burned out?

    Thanks,

    Azeeza

It sure can. There is a small light source in monitors/tvs/screens of any nature really. Adjusting the output of this light is really what you're doing when you adjust the brightness.

Can it REALLY? I've never had that happen before and I've never heard of it happening to anyone either.

The button light is usually green, unless it's off and then it's orange, but within the last few days there is NO light on the button. I've checked the wires, the cables and tried pushing the button and NOTHING happens. But, I can hear the computer turning on and off.

I just got the darned thing last winter. Plus, when I was in Turkey there was a storm that came through and it blew out the router. So, the router was replaced in September. And now my lap top keeps losing connection and I have to restart it (this was related to the storm too). I just got the laptop last winter too. I hope I don't have to replace it as well (I've tweaked some things, so it seems to be on the mend?).

Thank you so much for your help. I may be buying a new monitor ..c::.

PS Can I tell you a funny story? I took all of my husband's change and put it the pocket of my purse. The other day I wanted to take it out, but it had disappeared. There was a tiny hole in the lining and all the four pounds of change slid between the purse and the lining. I was trying to shake it out, but I had a magnet on the top of the mini pocket which kept closing. The hole was only big enough to stick my index finger in it! I did get all the change out, I *think*, by shaking my purse violently upside down, but everyday something needs a repair !

    Talking Re: Burned out Monitor?

    Update:

My husband tried plugging the monitor into another socket and it doesn't work. The button still clicks, but the light doesn't come on. I happened to have saved our very first monitor from 1998 and my husband lugged the 50 pound thing to the computer room and wa la, it works!

You could also try changing out the VGA cable to see if it's the cable. I would think if the back light went out you'd still be able to see a really really faint image. I just don't think they make monitors like they used to. Those old monitors were boat anchors but they'd last!

Your change story was hysterical :D
