    VCD format - can't watch a dvd

    Hi Ladies -

I bought "the legends" dvd, but it is actually a VCD format, and can't get it to play on my computer, nor on either one of two different dvd players.

I have a nice dvd player, then I had to buy a cheap cheap cheap one from walmart in order to play some european dvds that had a non-american file format. Those european dvds play in my cheap player.

help please! any advice would be appreciated.

Hi, I hope you are doing well.

I'm not real savvy on DVD players, but you might need the king that also plays; MP3, JPEG, HDCD, Windows formats.

As far as I know, this kind of player ISN'T that much more costly than just a regular player.

I hope you get too watch it soon!

Is it American Belly Dance Legends? Guess it doesn't matter...if it is new I would contact the seller. There is a chance that it is just a bum DVD/VCD. I had that happen once and I sent it back for a replacement which did play. I have no other advice as I've never had a problem with VCD's playing in my home player (which is at least 4 years old) or my computer (running Windows XP)...

It's not the American legends, but about dancers from 1947 through 1976 "The Legends of Belly Dance." 16 performances from dancers likeTahia, Samia, Zeinat, Nagua, etc. I bought it here on bhuz…would really like to watch it. Maybe I'll contact my electronics guy and see if he has any suggestions. Thanks ladies!

I have that DVD and it is NOT in the VCD format. It's a normal DVD and should play fine in any DVD player. I think you may have received a defective disk. I suggest contacting the seller to exchange it for a good one.

I bought it here on bhuz from a private seller, I'm pretty sure she doesn't have another version, but can check. Will also ask in the future about the format when I buy something unusual, and perhaps will just buy a dvd version and that will solve my problem.

Did you enjoy the dvd Shira?

It seems odd that you received this in VCD format. It makes me wonder whether you received a pirated copy. The manufacturer has always offered it only as DVD format.

The DVD provides an excellent introduction to well-known Egyptian dancers. I liked some clips better than others, which is natural. One thing that I liked a lot about it is that it introduces each clip with information on which movie it comes from, and what the song title is (if applicable). Many compilations don't do that.

For people who don't yet know enough about Egyptian dancers, this is a really good introduction. People can use it to figure out which ones they might like best (and later buy follow-on videos for more footage of their favorites), and it also shows the diversity of Egyptian style, how it's interpreted by various people.

It probably is a pirated copy. I did purchase from a bhuzzer. Now I will buy a new one, thanks Shira!
