Converrting DVD to file format to upload to YouTube

I tried a search but couldn't find the old thread on this topic. I have AoA Advanced X Video converter and I have been trying to convert a DVD of a performance into a file that I can upload to YouTube.

I've done it before but not often and not recently.

The software doesn't seem to recognize the file format of the DVD. Is there a primer somewhere about file format names, formats the can be uploaded, etc.? I'm confused.

Thanks in advance for pointing me in the right direction!

Problem solved - I was using Video Converter when I should have been using Video Ripper. Never mind!

I recently just did the same thing in Roxio. I had to upload the entire DVD file, cut out all the other parts than output as an mp4 file for youtube.

I use Cyberlink Power Director. When I import the contents of a dvd the software divides a dvd into chapters which you can use individually. The division points seem to be arbitrary and a dance may be split between two chapters so you have to work with both. Still, it gives a seamless transition, unlike some of my performances :-)

That sounds a lot easier than my method. It took hours! But mostly because I don't have enough space on my PC to run the program efficiently.
