Need help choosing a new PC

Right now I need to replace my main computer, so I"m looking for a PC desktop. My main use will be video editing. My current computer is out of disk space and editing is almost impossible. Any suggestions? There are so many choices. I"m going crazy.

The HP All in one Touchstart looks intriguing and beautiful but it is pricey. They are cheaper models available.

Then I was looking at the HP Pavilion Elite. Not very sexy and exciting as the Touchstart but maybe a more practical choice? But so many models!

I know that sounds like a smart alec comment, but it is an alternative to consider. Even though the initial cost may be higher, the bundled software (, free tech support at the Apple stores and ease of use make the Mac a good choice. Now, I wish I could recommend stopping at an Apple store for purchase advice, but in my experience, their sales people are bad beyond words (and I mean, so bad that even *I* considered not buying an iPod!), in contrast the very good tech support staff at the Genius Bar.

Thanks. I did consider a Mac, but I decided to stick with a PC because I had recently purchased video editing software that is compatible with Windows XP/7 and I didn't want to have to invest in new software at this point. Plus I have web-access for work at home and wanted to be sure I could access all my work problems. (Freudian slip? I meant work programs, LOL!)

I've heard great things about a Mac but I wasn't ready for such a big change.

I ended up getting the HP Pavilion Elite 500f. It's not sexy, but it is powerful. By the time I got the monitor and the anti-virus, Office, service warranty, I was $300 overbudget. Not too bad, I guess. But dang, there are so many choices out there.

I still really want a laptop/notebook/netbook to take along when I travel, but that will have to wait for another time.

I'm glad they didn't have the Touchscreen model in the store. I was able to avoid that temptation. As it is, they had to order mine.

I'd look for deals on tigerdirect.com and newegg.com

They both have quite a selection of nice PCs with good prices. I've had great experiences with both dealers especially tiger. You can probably find a nice PC on tiger for under or around $400.

I agree with the newegg.com link. Techbargains.com also has some great deals and that's how I got my new computer (laptop). I know someone who recently bought an HP desktop and she loves it. They've been churning out better products the last year or two...so it would be a pretty safe bet.

(Slickdeals.net has good deals, but you have to wade through a lot of crap. I find techbargains to be easier to use).

Yes, I did get the HP desktop. But I still will eventually get a laptop too. I'll check out the sites.

I would love a MAC but I got a Dell Inspirion from BestBuy and I love it. It was very reasonable and the 15" screen is great.
