    creating websites

is it really hard to do one on your own, even if you have not had the experience? any suggestions where to go or is it just better to hire someone.

Well it depends what sort of website you want. If all you need is a simple site, with a Bio, Gallery, How To Book Me and maybe a links page, then you probably could do it quite easily using your host's website building programme, or some basic html skills. Most hosting providers will have a fairly easy "Design Your Website" option as part of their service. That's how I started mine, and then I progressed to learning a bit of really easy html, using online tutorials.

But if you want an all-singing all-dancing whoop-di-doo website, then you might want to pass the commission on to a professional designer.

If your web host doesn't have a suitable free solution, try this:
Weebly - Create a free website and a free blog

You can do simple editing. A good starter site. Not all bells and whistles.

I agree! As someone who's avoided this for years, I finally took the plunge with Weebly, upgraded to .com and voilà, have created two websites in the past two months. I actually found the process to be very creative and enjoyable. I've more to learn and more to tweek, but these are a good start for now. Enjoy!

    Nice work on Weebly, Khalida!

I designed mine on Google Sites:

    Raqs Ainsley

Overall, I like their platform, but I had enough basic HTML/graphic design knowledge going in to be able to do some customization. There are still things I wish I could change (Like using a floating background! Argh!), but overall I'm happy with it for a free design and hosting service.

Hi Emily, no problem at all, I'm happy to help where I can and am tickled pink to be asked to assist in any sort of techie manner, self-professed Luddite that I am. I'm sure others will chime in here to give you more advanced pointers as well.

I chose the very reasonable fee for the upgrade to a Weebly pro account and a .com address because my sites are professional/business in nature. If you are creating a site for your personal use only, or if fees are an issue, even temporarily, then the free weebly account and address will be fine.

Good luck and let us know when your site is *live* :)
