Thumbs down WTF is Bing and how did it get on my computer?

I am so furious! Bing, a search engine from Microsoft (I think) somehow got installed on my computer, it shows up in Mozilla Firefox and Internet Explorer. I spent an hour on line last night trying to figure out how to uninstall it. The problem is that it doesn't show up in the Control Panel or browser Tools, there is no way to uninstall it that I can find. It infuriates me so much that I uninstalled Firefox and am now using Chrome because the Bing doesn't show up on Chrome (so far).

Does anyone know if this really is from Microsoft and why it is impossible to uninstall? I think I inadvertently got it when I was downloading a printer driver or installing PDF, those are the only things I can think that I have done recently.

I want to rant to the makers of the darn thing, how dare they install something I didn't ask for and then make it impossible to uninstall it? Is it malicious?

Thanks in advance, wise techie Bhuzzers!

Bing is legitimate, licensed Microsoft software. The plan is to eventually use Bing technology to replace Yahoo's search engine per their 2009 deal, so it's not going anywhere. If you're using something with a Microsoft brand on it, I'm not sure you will ever be able to completely escape Bing, but yeah, I hate it, too. I go out of my way to disable it, and even when it launches on its own (usually after something upgrades and "helpfully" resets my priorities, because it must have been an accidental oversight on my part that Bing isn't my default search engine...), I'll close the window and rerun the search with Google just to spite it.

There are computer sites and hacker forums with instructions for how to minimize the software's presence on your computer. LOL--if you really want to cheese them off make sure you do your Internet search for "uninstall Bing" ON Bing.

I tried many of the things suggested on this page but none of them worked. Now using Google Chrome because it doesn't have it. I think I will try Tourbeau's suggestion about searching for uninstall Bing on Bing, LOL.

I had to uninstall Yahoo toolbar a few times, too, but at least it wasn't hard to do. Microsoft is evil!!!!

Re: WTF is Bing and how did it get on my computer?

I finally figured out how to get rid of Bing in Firefox - there is a little pull-down menu that appears when you click on the tiny downward pointing triangle in the Bing window of the toolbar. At the bottom of the list of search engines that appears, there is the option to "manage search engines" which allowed me to remove Bing. YAY!

Bing never appeared in the control panel when I went to remove/change programs, never appeared under the Tools area of the Firefox toolbar, so I was getting pretty frustrated. None of the instructions that I saw included this option.

    Bye bye Bing!

Now I just have to figure out how to fix it in IE, where it annoyingly hijacked my start page. I only use IE to edit my website, so I had that as my start. Stupid Bing.
