question for mac/firefox users
So I converted to firefox several months ago and in general I like the browser, but at least once per day, firefox stops responding to all keyboard commands (menus, links, etc). When it does this, I have to force quit. The strange thing is that when I open the force quit box, it does *not* indicate that fire fox is officially "not responding". The problem doesn't seem to be associated with a particular website.
This happens on three different macs that I use, at home and at work, so I know its not a problem with a particular computer.
Everything is relatively updated: I'm running Firefox 2.0.0.10 and OSX 10.4.11
Anyone know what I'm talking about?

I know exactly what you're talking about and have no idea why it happens. Shortly after I bought my IMac last year, Safari quit playing embedded video so I switched to Firefox and it performed perfectly for a few months..... Then after another Apple update my Firefox started misbehaving and Safari has done everything I need it to since, except access Hotmail properly.

I'm running Panther, and have been using FireFox on Mac, Win-Blows, and Linux ever since it came out. I used to see this issue in the FireFox 1.5.x days, but haven't seen it since 2.0.x came out.
Haven't a clue - with all 3 of your Macs doing it, I wonder if its a Tiger/FireFox combination problem. I'd say file a bug report and also see if Google turns up anything.

Well, I abandoned Safari because it doesn't work with bhuz plus a variety of other sites, and I kept getting the insistant message that it was all Safari's fault, not that of website designers. The final straw was when my university's online course resource department told all instructors basically to either use firefox or don't bother seeking tech support for Blackboard.

This happens to me occasionally, but not enough for me to raise eyebrows at it. Did you do the upgrade they recently offered?

Happens to me too, and I am using mostly Safari, because it annoys the hell out of me.

Re: question for mac/firefox users
Safari died an ugly death last year for me, and now takes about 10 minutes to load a page, even on DSL....
for me, my main firefox problem is that whenever I try to plan a youtube video it freezes firefox after the first 5 seconds and gives me the beachball of doom and makes me force-quit firefox. has anyone else had this happen/have solutions?

Hmmm, my whole family uses Firefox, to my knowledge no one has ever had any of these problems.
Curious!

Re: question for mac/firefox users
I love FireFox, but I found it doesn't work so well on my MacBook, so I use Camino. Not sure about the technical pros and cons, but Camino might be worth a try. I can't remember it freezing on me, ever.

Re: question for mac/firefox users
I have 768 MB, so that should be okay. seriously, this is really killing my ability to watch BD clips!! maybe I'll try out caminoHowever, I did have that problem last year on an older mac with only 256MB of RAM. Do you need a memory upgrade?

Re: question for mac/firefox users
i just 'upgraded' to ff 2.0.0.11 on an osx 10.3.9 / 1.5G RAM
it seems to be fine.
you might want to delete your ff totally and install a fresh full version of 2.0.0.11
if you want to revert to an older version of ff, i have the disk imgs somewhere. you can pm me for them.
i'm wondering if the video "hang" issues described above are attributable to either processor speed or proxy servers on your network? does this happen on all browsers?
