Do you want to watch DVD's on a television, or on a computer?

I recently discovered a software product called AnyDVD that fools Microsoft Windows into thinking that the DVD is playable in all regions.

Here's a review I wrote a few years ago of a portable DVD player that can be set to any region you want with a magic incantation on the remote control: http://www.shira.net/tech-portabledvd.htm

I don't know whether that specific DVD player still exists, but I like mine.

    Hi Sashy
Many ordinary cheap DVD players can be coded to be multi-region. I got my DVD player from the supermarket and it cost £20 (US$40), real cheapo machine, nothing fancy. But beforehand I googled the make/brand and exact product code for the player adding the word "multiregion" and it came up with various forums which give you the code to input, using the DVD player's remote control. If I remember correctly I had to do it with the tray open.

So before spending big money, check your local supermarket for the cheap deal DVD players & see if you can make them multi-region!

Also, a lot of the problems I've had with DVDs bought in Egypt was that they aren't DVDs at all, they're VCDs. The only way I've found to play those is in my computer, using Windows MediaPlayer.

I wouldn't spend money on a multi region specific...if you google the DVD's make and manufacuters model (so say Philips SV 4560) and 'hack code' you should easily be able to find a fix to make yours multi region without the extra cost.

As Bea says - VCDs don't play in all machines....luckily they do play in mine...which was an el cheapo special...however I used to have a top of the line DVD which played VCDs...when buying your machine check that they play DVD, VCD, mp3 etc etc

    You know what Sashi?

I bought the cheapest DVD player at a Walmart store (paid 29$ Canadien). It's very small, you can have it in black or grey, there's no screen but it plays EVERYTHING on TV. From pictures, to VCD of Egypt, and PAL DVD.

Something like the Magnavox listed here:
    http://www.walmart.com/catalog/catal...catNavId=62055

You don't need to pay a big amount of money. The more you pay, the greatest the image will be but it will be too much precision and it cannot read everything.
