Thread: Eilat Festival 2010?

And last one for tonight
My dear dear friend Özlem, Alexej and myself decompressing at my place after the festival. We had a mini-festival ourselves, discussing the subtleties of Turkish, Egyptian and Russian styles, dancing to Turkish Roman music and watching Turkish Roman videos etc etc. I miss them so much already!

here's mine! i'm not soo happy with the veil bit. i bumped into orits students in the blackout (them running out and me running in as my music had started!) and it threw me off a little for my intro. i'm happier with the rest.

although, mayodi did pay me a wonderfull compliment after the show that had me on cloud 9 for the rest of the festival!!

it really is a great festival, you should all come next year! would be great to go with a bigger international group! i plan on going a few days earlier to see tel aviv and jeruzalem/ anyone wanna join?

So lovely! When I'm done with grad school I want to do a trip (or trips) to a few of the festivals overseas. I think if I go to Eliat I'll drag my boyfriend along, since its "going home" for him. Then I'll have someone to help me navigate crazy airports and such.

I understand tight security going into the country.
I understand security at the malls.
I certainly understand Khalida being detained with the "possibly dangerous" curling iron. These three things make sense.
The checking pictures taken in Israel as standard procedure. This I question. Is it related to journalism censorship? Is it just in case a tourist (or belly dance festival attendee) happen to see something that Israel doesn't want the outside world to see? Is it related at all the the peace activists who provide cameras for documentation?

No, this is just another way to verify passenger's story. Enforcing censorship by checking cameras in the airport sounds ridiculous to me, when I can just upload anything I wish beforehand.

But upon leaving, damage they could have done would have already passed...and it's not like journalists haven't had to take things off the internet after publishing/uploading. If there is more scrutiny upon leaving than arriving (as seem to have been indicated) - that's just ... odd.

Anyway... It most certainly looks like a lovely festival. I have to ask- Asi Haskel- did he vend costumes? (swoon)

The scrutiny depends on many factors, the selectors have the profiling protocol plus there might be specific security warnings at the moment of questioning the passenger, add to that not passing the explosives tests and you are doomed to a longer questioning. I personally know of cases when people were questioned when boarding an international flight to Israel for more than two hours including calling the future host (myself) from the airport to verify their story. It has nothing to do with censorship.

The festival is indeed great, I'm of course going this year again, and yes, Asi vends every festival.

The festival flier has been up for a while now!

Won't be making it this year but line up looks great as alwAys. I'll miss going to the reef again!

The reef is beautiful! But the best place to chill out in Eilat (besides the festival of course :) ) is the Dolphin Reef! Not much of the reef there but you can swim with the dolphins! And the whole place looks like the garden of Eden. They also have a spa with water therapy treatments. Next time then?

i think that's what i went to. it was a place with three baths, one were girls float you around/massage you, one very salt one where you float on your own, and one where you just hang out, relax. and a sauna, and complimentary drinks. alll in these beautifull beautifull huts. i went after the festival with some friends, it was amazing, one of the best spa experiences i"ve EVER had

Sophie, do you know if there are any performance dvd's of the shows sold? and how I could get my hands on them?

Nope, there are none. There might be some VHS tapes of the first festival show (they are sold out on DVDs I believe), but other than that Orit uploads everything to youtube.

Love the flyer! Looking forward to the festival a lot.. happy to see you all again finally. It will be bobby pins for me instead of a curling iron this time ;)

Sorry, hadn't realized that you had replied, thanks for the information. I really wish she would dvd and sell them, not a fan of youtube. I find myself losing interest in even the most amazing dancer when it's that small. Even enlarging them doesn't work, because you lose the resolution.

I agree, but according to what I heard from Yael and Orit producing the DVDs turned out to be a non-profitable endeavor here, people tend to buy one and make copies :(, and the international market is too small to justify the investment.

OK, if there is enough demand I might be able to get a good deal for all of us. Maybe we can chill out there Thursday morning before the festival begins, or after the festival ends (I'm supposed to leave on Saturday night, thinking of staying for another night just to relax and decompress, last time it felt very rushed to leave right after the festival ends)
