So,
I'm looking to set up some lessons for myself in Istanbul and I'd love to be able to take from some great teachers. Who do you all recommend and do you know how I can reach them?
I've sent off messages to Sema Yildiz and Ahmet Ogren and I have a contact who will probably be able to get me classes with Reyhan Tuzsuz.
Who else teaches that you'd recommend. Anybody know if there is any chance I could take from the Reyhan who was on Oyantal Star, or Nesrin Topkapi or Tulay or Didem? How would I even reach these dancers?

Ahmet Ogren works with Gonul, Fazil studio owner in Istanbul....she might know more..
big stars not only very very pricey, but also I dont believe they teach.
I would try Tanyeli, one of my favs.
I will be in Istanbul with God's Willing, August.

There was an attempt to get Tulay to teach at one of the Folktours Turkey events a few years back. From what I understand, she asked for an outrageous amount of money. But, if you are willing to give it a shot (and hey, for her, I would!), Artemis and/or Tayyar may be able to help you get in touch with her.

Re: Best Teachers in Istanbul?
Just to report back, I did end up taking with Sema, Ahmet and Reyhan as I originally planned and picked up a couple extra classes with Delpha which was an added bonus.
I found out Bella (the costumer) had Tanyeli's number, but it was too late to set something up. In the future, if anybody get's more info on how to contact some of these great dancers there, let me know.

Re: Best Teachers in Istanbul?
Can you give me the contact details of these teachers?
I am going to Istanbul in October. And I would like to put them on my Istanbul address-page. (I have Sema's and Ahmet's website, but Tanyeli's link doesn't work anymore)
Which was the best teacher for Oryantal? I am less interested in Roma dance.
Thanks

Re: Best Teachers in Istanbul?
I didn't get Tanyeli's info, but you can ask Bella if she'll give it to you. If you already have Ahmet's and Sema's then I can't help you much there.
Sema taught me in a very watch and follow way and she only broke down steps when I asked.
Ahmet taught me a choreography and was very particular in his corrections.
They both had some interesting content for Turkish Oriental. Neither was great at English and both were on the more spendy side.
Both Ahmet and Reyhan offer their own, more theatrical take on Roman also, but I would tend to trust Ahmet's approach to Roman a little more than Sema's. His timing seems a little better to me. But for Roman, I think Reyhan is the best.
If you get questions from anyone about Roman, I highly recommend both Delpha and Reyhan. I loved the Roman classes (without a doubt, my favorites). Delpha will only be there for the next year about, so now is a good time to go if you want the added benefit of Delpha's English and breakdown for Reyhan's amazing technique and approach.

Re: Best Teachers in Istanbul?
I haven't studied with neither of them but I know Hale and she is absolutely fantastic dancer and real sweetheart (plus she speaks perfect English) and I know people who have studied with her and they say that she breaks down movements well and has patient and warm teaching style besides very defined dance technique.
Her style is more general oriental or fusion than Turkish though but that also depends on the music she is using as she likes to be creative with different music choices
