Thread: Help! Need to call Mahmoud!

Not sure if this is the right thread....does anyone have Mahmoud, from the Al-Wikalah Export co, phone #? I visited him in January and was given an invoice with this # and it is not correct 202-589-7443 (verified by my interpreter). Thanks for your help!!

I had a look on Meissoun's website and that is the same number she has....so that's weird. Perhaps it is temporarily out of order. Have you tried faxing?

Also, she has the international dial code Egypt as 00202...but even that looks the same as what you have there? mmmm....

I have just looked at my Al Wikalah bag and it has the same number. The fax number is 202 390 0357 if that helps.

Over the last year or so, the telephone system in Cairo has been going through some major changes causing all kinds of confusion. ..c:: In order to call any landline telephone, you need to add a new prefix to the number you are used to calling. In Mahmoud's case it is a "2". So...

From the US, to call Mahmoud you need to dial 011-202-2-589-7443.

If you are in Europe or anywhere else, dial whatever the international phone code is instead of "011". If the international prefix is "00", then you dial 00-202-2-589-7443.

If you are in Cairo and call him from a mobile(cell) phone, it's 02-2-589-7443. I did that successfully last month.

If you call from a landline phone in Cairo, I don't know for sure what to dial because I didn't call anyone from a landline phone last month. Over the last 12 years, Mahmoud's number has changed from 897-433 to 5-897-433 to 2-589-7443.

I just checked my bag, the numbers are written as Leyla described, 202 25897443 and the fax is 202 23900357. Did you get through?

For call's to egypt you have to put +202 before, but when you call to Caïro you have to put +202 2 before.....I had the same problem when I tried to reach my hotel.

+ stands for international call from your country (or 00, or something else)
20 is country code for Egypt
02 is Cairo code inside Egypt
(the first 0 from the Cairo code is omitted when you combine those two)
and after that is the telephone number

About two years ago all the telephone numbers in Cairo got extra digit in the front. Depending of the are the number can be 2, 3, 4.... In downtown it happens to be 2.

Now I have to check all the telephone numbers I have in my website.
